Who you are
- You love working with data, extracting value from datasets and telling powerful data-driven stories
- Demonstrated experience in working with data, executing analysis and generating data narratives for a wide audience, gained from working in a similar role or in management consulting
- Experienced in defining business issues and transforming them into executable analysis
- You can confidently present analytical work providing insight and recommendations to a wide ranging audience
- A hunger to learn and grow. You are curious, ask questions, and get excited about new projects
- Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred, in Business, Statistics, Data Science, or related field
- 3-5 years prior experience working as an Analyst, or in a similar role in an insights or management consulting
- Sound working knowledge of SQL and database structures
- Strong data visualization skills and experience using tools like Tableau, Looker, Domo
- Experience using scripting languages such as Python for data analysis a plus
- Experience of applying statistical analysis to derive insights a plus
- Strong passion for and knowledge of music
What the job involves
- The Orchard is looking for an experienced Data Analyst to work with our internal teams and management to support our day-to-day business
- As a Data Analyst, you will support management, sales and marketing, label management, artist services and content acquisition teams to provide decision support and insight
- Partner with business stakeholders and management to understand key business priorities and translate them into data and insight needs
- Design and execute analysis and synthesize findings into insightful data narratives
- Visualize data to effectively communicate narratives to a variety of internal and external audiences
- Build user friendly and insightful dashboards that serve the needs of internal stakeholders across the Americas
- Support staff members with training on our internal data tools where needed
- Liaise with counterparts, the data engineering team, and stakeholders where required to generate deeper insights and report any data irregularities

The Orchard has spent 25 years offering independent artists a comprehensive set of music services, including marketing, sales, YouTube monetisation, and distribution and licensing across over 40 worldwide markets. The company has spent nearly a decade of that time operating as a subsidiary of Sony Music.
The addition of YouTube monetisation services a decade ago was a smart move for The Orchard - even if it’s landed the company in some hot copyfraud water for what some criticise as an overzealous approach to copyright infringement claims. It’s meant that artists with The Orchard have more tools in their arsenal to combat the rise of streaming services, which have put independent artists in a difficult position regarding monetisation.
If the company wants to continue providing the best service for independent artists, however, it may need to be more proactive in accommodating new and highly influential trends in music marketing. TikTok, for example, has become a major tool for generating exposure, and many artists are experimenting independently with NFTs. The industry is moving at light speed, and The Orchard may need to pick up its pace to continue attracting independent talent.
