Who you are

5+ years experience as a people leader within a platform engineering organization
Domain expertise with customer-facing Identity & Access Management (IAM) – specifically authentication, authorization, and security
Deep understanding of distributed systems and cloud computing
Experience building, operating, and maintaining high-traffic, high-availability platforms and systems
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex systems to identify root causes and implement effective mitigations and resolutions
Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and propose new solutions or improvements that align with organizational goals
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively within a team, including remote and distributed teams
Proven leadership capabilities with experience mentoring and guiding engineering teams
Ability to adapt to new technologies, changing requirements, and evolving organizational needs
Availability for participation in on-call rotation, ensuring prompt and effective responses to business-critical alerts outside of regular working hours

What the job involves

You will work directly with the Head of Engineering for our Platform Services group, and will be focused on building foundational tools for engineering to create a best-in-class scheduling experience that empowers our users to host better meetings
As a Senior Engineering Manager at Calendly, you have the chance to mentor and grow some of the best and brightest engineers in the world
In this role, you will be overseeing the evolution of Calendly’s architecture from a monolithic codebase into high availability services
This role will also be working on building out the foundational APIs and capabilities that enable our entire engineering team to innovate quickly
This means working closely with product focused engineering teams to understand their needs, and also deep diving into our data services to discover new capabilities and insights that provide value to our users
If chosen for this role, you’ll be responsible for mentoring, coaching, and planning for the future of your team
Hiring engineers to build out both new and existing squads for the company, with oversight on all team members that get hired onto the squad
Bringing technical expertise related to platform authentication, authorization, access control, security, and networking
Solving problems that enable the entire engineering organization to move faster
Coaching, mentoring, and onboarding new engineering team members
Ensuring the career development, satisfaction, and productivity of the engineers on your team
Identifying future technical needs and creating plans to meet them
Providing feedback and guidance to help us continuously grow and scale

Our take

Calendly is a cloud-based scheduling service that is straightforward to use. It allows around 10 million customers per month to connect and make appointments based on their available times without having to send emails back and forth.

The platform offers four different plans - allowing individuals, small companies, and large enterprises alike to make use of these services. Calendly's growth to date been based mostly around a very organic strategy. Its invites become links to Calendly itself, so people who like it can, and do, start to use it.

There are a handful of competing products on the market, including offerings from Doodle and Microsoft, but Calendly's customer-friendly design has won it attention and allowed it to carve itself a space in the field. Impressive funding has contributed to the company's expansion, allowing it to capitalize on the increasing popularity of home and hybrid working.
