Who you are
- You’re experienced communicating complex analytical concepts to a variety of audiences
- You’re a strong analytical thinker able to execute quantitative and qualitative analysis
- You’re independent, able to identify gaps/reorient your analytical strategies to answer the questions at hand without constant guidance, and strong at cutting through problems with incomplete information
- We can give you a question and you come back later with the best way to answer it and what answer that analysis provides
- You’ve got a bit of a bent towards systematic thinking and a need to make processes more efficient
- And most importantly, you’re passionate about financial markets and improving how private markets are connected to the world!
- Quantitative analysis skills (fluency in performance data, reporting, economic data, and portfolio math)
- Degree in business, finance, economics or related field
- 2-4 years of experience in an analyst role within private markets/alternative investments
- Experience working with data and analysis tools
- Qualitative analysis
- Strong communicator (written, verbal, and visual)
- Independent problem solver
- Fluency in Excel
Desirable
- Fluency in SQL
- Fluency in R or Python
- Fluency with private markets data
- CFA charterholder/CAIA or progress towards either
What the job involves
- As part of Opto’s investment team, you will be a key member of our investment team and use your skills to analyze and communicate market trends, manage due diligence of potential investments, and support overall portfolio management functions, including reporting to the investment committee and monitoring overall portfolio exposures
- You will be a critical player in accomplishing two of our key goals: educating our clients on alternative investments and selecting the best investments we could/should be offering them via our unique platform
- Qualitative and quantitative fund due diligence
- Monitoring overall market trends and demand in the alternative investment space, including private equity, venture capital, real estate, private credit, infrastructure and other asset classes
- Assisting in building a systematic processes for investment due diligence, investment performance, and benchmarks
- Developing customized risk management and reporting for a unique portfolio of alternative investments
- Analytical projects covering macroeconomics, public & private markets, and/or individual fund-level data
- Assist in writing and communicating investment education content
Our take
For investment advisors looking to put together strong portfolios for clients, private investments represent a vast and attractive section of the market. However, these assets remain underused, with advisors having on average only 0-4% of their wealth invested in them, due in part to restricted access and lack of appropriate resources. Opto Investments enables Registered Investment Advisors to “level up” their practices, by providing access and insight into the private investment market.
Traditionally, access to private investments has been restricted to those with large teams of specialists who are able to assess the market and fill out the too-often convoluted paperwork. Opto Investment supplies a platform which combines these processes, allowing RIAs to explore the private market landscape and turn insights into actionable investments. The process is managed from start to finish, incorporating client goals throughout, with the company leading advisors from sourcing and diligence to investor servicing and reporting.
Opto Investments has already partnered with over 80 Registered Investment Advisors, and it has raised huge amounts of funding. With recent new launches and strategic partnerships secured, Opto is ready to transform how advisors approach private investments.
