Role

Who you are

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • 2 to 5+ years of relevant development experience
  • In-depth experience in Rust
  • Experience with Python a plus
  • Experience with Kubernetes and Docker
  • Development experience with Linux and Bash
  • Knowledge in NoSQL, Prometheus, Elasticsearch, Kibana, and other CNCF technologies
  • Experience with distributed systems architectures
  • Understanding of concepts such as concurrency, parallelism, and event driven architecture
  • Knowledge of Web technologies including REST and gRPC
  • Intermediate knowledge of version control tools such as git and GitLab
  • Familiarity with Java or C++

What the job involves

  • The PlayStation brand falls under Sony Interactive Entertainment, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation
  • As a part of Sony Interactive Entertainment, the Future Technology Group (FTG) team is leading the cloud gaming revolution, putting console-quality video games on any device!
  • As a Software Engineer on the Cloud Back-End Engineering team, you’ll play a key role in the design and development of server-side applications on a large geographically distributed infrastructure
  • Design and implementation of features in distributed back end systems
  • Ownership of the implementation, and delivery of well-defined features from start to finish
  • Implementation of unit tests via testing frameworks
  • Define and craft integration tests with Test Engineering
  • Solve performance and reliability issues at a global scale
  • Triage and fix reported bugs
  • Communicate estimates, schedules, issues, and dependencies to technical or project lead
  • Continually bring new ideas and insights about technology to the engineering team

Its consoles are iconic in the gaming community - Playstation has produced both the top-selling and fastest-selling console of all time - and the company is still pushing boundaries. Its current flagship - the PS5 - promises to revolutionize gaming, featuring new technology that will create improvements across the board.

As well as its consoles, PlayStation has also developed online services, connecting its users and giving them access to diversified media. A PlayStation can be used for a huge range of activities - from Netflix to guided workouts - which has led to the expansion of the company's audience over time and across generations.

PlayStation faces competition in its field from the likes of Microsoft, with its Xbox range, and PC gaming, which has been becoming more popular in recent years. Regardless, PlayStation shows no signs of slowing down. The upcoming implementation of in-game ads in free games looks to significantly increase revenue, and the wider PlayStation gaming experience also appears to be evolving from plans to launch live service games in upcoming years.
