Role
Who you are
- 12+ years of experience in leading and growing a brand, with a focus on market expansion and customer acquisition
- Has a strong understanding of regional/ local market trends and opportunities, developing category plans or retailer / channel strategies
- Strong leadership and management skills, with prior experience leading cross-functional teams
- Proven ability in aspirational goal setting, execution, and achievement - OKR format preferred
- Superior negotiation and analytical thinking skills; ability to use data to inform decisions and drive brand growth
- Solid business acumen, with the ability to identify opportunities and challenges and devise effective strategies in response
- Must have prior experience in a similar role in the skincare or beauty industry, from product development to retailer management at a prominent U.S. retailer such as Sephora and/or Ulta
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field; Master’s degree or MBA is a plus
- Comfortable working out of our Brooklyn, NY office for 3-5 days a week
- Knowledge and experience with Amazon Seller Central would be an added advantage
What the job involves
- As we navigate through a dynamic phase of expansion, we are in search of an Executive Director to oversee and lead our Business Development, Marketing, and Operations efforts for Then I Met You, as we expand into new markets and achieve ambitious growth targets
- Drive the strategic direction for Then I Met You, focusing on market expansion and acquiring new customers in domestic and international regions
- Lead the entire Then I Met You team, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and accountability, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives
- Engage and perform relevant share / market / performance analytics - e.g., to inform strategy or key business decisions with key stakeholders, including co-founders, and retailers
- Develop and oversee the execution of effective marketing strategies to increase brand awareness and community engagement
- Monitor and report on key performance metrics, including new customer acquisition, community growth, and market expansion
- Oversee the new innovation pipeline and execution of product development
- Lead new retailer relationships to ensure the brand's continuous growth, with proven experience in negotiation and execution of contracts
- Drive analytical initiatives to gather insights, improve decision-making, and optimize ROI on various campaigns and strategies
Our take
Over the last few years, the Western world has become pretty taken with Korean film & TV, pop music, and “K-Beauty”. Thanks to brands like Dr.Jart+, Peach & Lily, and Soko Glam, Korean beauty products are now accessible and budget-friendly in Western markets.
Soko Glam launched back in 2012 in what was then a fairly cold market, but as the popularity of K-Beauty took hold, the company was well-positioned to grow in tandem. Indeed, co-founder Charlotte Cho is now partly credited with making the 10-step skincare routine as popular as it is today.
Now, it’s one of the most high-profile eCommerce companies in its niche, growing impressively with a small team and relatively little funding. While its position in the US is pretty secure, it’ll be interesting to see how Soko Glam performs on the international market as more local brands emerge in the space.
