Role
Who you are
- You bring with you a solid foundation in writing and reviewing code—whether from a Developer, SRE, or DevOps background with a strong interest in security, or from a Security Engineering role grounded in full-stack software engineering.
- You’re confident working in agile, cross-functional teams and excel at communicating technical risks, explaining vulnerabilities, and helping teams understand why they matter
- You have extensive experience with at least one major public cloud provider (preferably GCP, though Azure experience is also valuable), and a strong understanding of network infrastructure.
- You're familiar with Kubernetes, Docker, and container security, as well as GCP’s Security Command Centre
- You’ve worked with infrastructure-as-code using tools like Terraform and YAML, and scripting or automation using Python, Kotlin, or TypeScript
- Experience with CI tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, and involvement in pipeline builds, release packaging, and artefact management
What the job involves
- We are seeking a Staff Application Security Engineer to join our team. In this role, you’ll work closely with Engineering, SRE, and Product teams to embed risk-conscious technical security controls into our services, development workflows, and product delivery
- You’ll act as a subject matter expert in application security, leading threat modelling exercises and helping to define and automate cloud-native security tooling. You will play a key role in implementing secure development practices through the SDLC, including facilitating and managing testing workflows using SCA, SAST, and DAST scanners, as well as runtime security and vulnerability testing tools
- This role sits within the Security Architecture and Engineering (SANE) team, part of our Cyber Security function. We’re a small group of experts supporting Ki’s business, product, and engineering teams to build and run secure platforms. Ki is a Lloyd's of London syndicate for providing capital and accepting insurance risks, and was built as a collaboration between Google and specialised insurer Brit. It claims to offer the fastest route for brokers to receive a quote for their clients on the Lloyd's market.
Now the company is closing out a big chapter with a bold step forward. After separating from Brit, Ki is now ready to operate as its own company within the Fairfax Group and it has also teamed up with QBE to boost capacity across 11 major business lines, so brokers have even more access to quality cover through its digital platform.
