Role
Who you are
- J.D. and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 8+ years of employment law experience, including time in both a law firm and in-house, in a related role
- Comfort working across a wide range of matters in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent judgment and ability to work cross-functionally
- Experience advising on use of AI in the context of employment
- Flexibility to take on adjacent work in commercial contracts and disputes as needed
- Experience advising a physician practice, hospital, or other care care provider is strongly preferred
- Experience advising on employee data privacy is preferred
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a pragmatic, business-minded Senior Employment Counsel to be Ro’s lead advisor on people-related matters that arise across the organization, including at Ro’s pharmacy subsidiary and affiliated physician practice
- You’ll partner closely with our People, Legal, and business teams to advise on the full employee lifecycle, use of AI in the workplace and employee data privacy
- You’ll also have a chance to jump in on commercial contacts and broader disputes as time allows
- Provide clear, actionable advice on all aspects of the employee experience, including hiring, performance management, accommodations, investigations, and exits
- Manage employment disputes and agency inquiries, including investigations, pre-litigation response, and outside counsel and insurance broker management
- Advise on responsible, compliant use of AI tools in recruiting, performance management, and other employment contexts
- Support Ro’s workforce strategy, including worker classification, remote arrangements, and cross-border employment questions
- Anticipate and track changes in relevant laws and keep Ro ahead of them through practical updates and guidance
- Work closely with our Privacy and Security teams on matters related to employee data
- Work with the People team to maintain scalable policies, handbooks, templates, and training programs
- Partner with the People team and outside counsel on benefits and equity questions in support of Ro’s overall compensation structure
- Step in on non-employment disputes or commercial agreements as time and interest allow
