- Proven expertise in backend development, including designing and operating highly available, scalable distributed systems
- Go is preferred, but experience with Ruby, Java, or similar is also valuable

- Expertise in Go
- Experience in fintech or other regulated industries
- Familiarity with REST and GraphQL APIs
- Proficiency with infrastructure automation tools like Terraform
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
What the job involves
- This role is essential in driving innovation within our engineering team while maintaining the reliability and scalability of our systems
- Reporting to Claire, our VP of Engineering, you’ll take on the role of our most senior engineering collaborator, shaping architectural decisions, refining engineering processes, and delivering impactful solutions that align with our business goals
- Build and deliver new features end-to-end, from concept to deployment, ensuring high quality and performance
- Drive major architectural and data model decisions, influencing the technical direction of our projects
- Shape and refine engineering processes to enhance development velocity, delivery quality, and the developer experience
- Balance innovation with maintaining legacy systems, iterating thoughtfully to solve real user problems
- Mentor peers through technical knowledge-sharing while prioritising delivering impactful work
- Work closely with Product and Engineering leadership to align technical decisions with business goals
- Play a key role in hiring, helping to identify and attract top technical talent

- Interview with Claire, our VP of Engineering - Now that you're in the running, it's time to spend some time unpacking your experience with the hiring manager (1hr)
- Coding Challenge with Lluis & Kieron, our Senior Engineering Team - Now that you're in the running, it's time to spend some time assessing your coding ability with our team (1- 1.5hrs)
- Live System Design Interview with our Senior Engineering Team (1.5 hrs)
- Final Interviews with Mary & Paddy, our Founders – At this stage, we're genuinely excited and believe you should spend some time with the founders, learning more about each other and our values. This will be in person. If you’re based in Europe, we’ll fly you into London for the day (4 hrs)
- Before each interview, we'll prepare you for what to expect. Regardless of the outcome, once you’re in our process, we'll provide detailed feedback within 24 hours of the interview
- Our process typically takes two weeks, sometimes shorter, or perhaps a bit longer; we'll accommodate your availability and are happy to make any hiring adjustments along the way
Our take
Odin is at the apex of two major trends in finance: the democratisation of access to private markets through technology, and the increasingly social feel of finance and investing. The startup began as a social network with an investment layer built on top, though it is now a more focused financial service that simplifies startup investing.
The company's roots in social and community speak to a unique trajectory it is on. After gaining a lot of traction with its syndicate-formation service, the startup has been looking to develop further products that decentralise and simplify capital rails for the innovation ecosystem. It’s likely that the product roadmap will be developed in conjunction with its customer base, many of whom attend Odin’s salons.
Though the company has had to navigate an environment where capital going towards innovative companies is at a fraction of where it once was, it appears to have emerged unscathed, if not stronger. In 2023, it raised £2.4 million in a seed round that included contributions from 220 angels through its own platform. It plans to use these funds to roll out its marketplace for people raising money to find investors, as well as support scale-up plans across Europe and possibly into Asia.
