Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of backend software engineering experience
- Experience building, maintaining, or architecting one or more production web applications
- Experience with performance tuning, REST architecture and iterative development
- Advanced knowledge of at least one programming language - preferably with Ruby on Rails (Python, Go, or Java are also acceptable)
- Familiarity with AWS or any of the other big cloud computing platforms (e.g. GCP, Azure, etc.) would be preferred
- Experience working on databases is preferred
- Must be willing and able to work eastern timezone hours
What the job involves
- This position will fall under our Grailed Engineering Team. Grailed is the leading community-driven marketplace for rare luxury, streetwear and vintage fashion and is now under the GOAT Group brand
- From launching compelling new consumer experiences, tackling global logistics challenges to scaling infrastructure to facilitate our rapid growth – technology is essential to driving our vision forward. The work you do will change the way the world shops, while also empowering entrepreneurs, including individual sellers, brands and boutiques
- Work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to build features and improvements
- Extend our API and frontend systems
- Add to and improve our testing environment
- QA and code review other engineers’ work
- Keep up with the latest development trends in backend technologies
- Collaborate with frontend and iOS team to ship seamless features
Our take
With the secondhand fashion market booming, Grailed is one of a growing number of community-driven online marketplaces that’s come to the fore. As the majority of breakout secondhand eCommerce platforms target womens’ wear, Grailed initially focussed on high-end men’s streetwear - delivering services for this underserved side of fashion enthusiasts before expanding to cover anyone's personal style.
Resale platforms like Grailed, alongside competitors Depop and Rent the Runway, are proving particularly popular with Gen Z. It’s easy to see why, with users able to save money on purchases, make their own money on sales, and find one of a kind products, while creating a more circular fashion economy. Though Grailed’s growth hasn’t been quite as rapid as some of its contemporaries, it is well-funded and popular, suggesting it has a promising future ahead.
In 2023, Grailed was acquired by eCommerce fashion platform GOAT Group, consolidating the operations of both companies in the face of the continuing second-hand luxury boom. Interestingly, their future competitors may come in the form of luxury brands themselves, with many entering the resale space in a bid to keep this lucrative arm of business in-house - though it remains to be seen whether consumers will favour this over existing second hand platforms like Grailed.
