Who you are
- You have professional experience in a product-driven environment
- Know how to write distributed, high-volume services in Java or Scala

What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Revenue Engineering team. We are responsible for redefining billions of EUR in commercial events into the financial statement. In this team, you will be working with the revenue that enables creators to live off their art
- Do you want to be a part of the team within Spotify that makes sure artists and songwriters get paid for the music they have crafted?
- To give you a teaser, to do that, we need to process hundreds of millions of users and billions of daily streams into accurate compensation (royalties) that we pay out every month
- This is at the core of Spotify’s business model, which means that our team contributes to highly visible initiatives across the company. It also means that we have to understand many other teams’ business domains and systems to operate and evolve our own systems optimally
- Build scalable batch data processing systems with Scio and the GCP
- Help drive optimization, testing, and tooling to improve data quality and platform stability
- Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, business analysts, and functional specialists to efficiently deliver projects
- Work in multi-functional agile teams to continuously experiment, iterate and deliver on new product objectives enabling Spotify to expand its revenue processing capabilities
- Use standard methodologies in continuous integration and delivery
- We ask that our team members be located within Greenwich Mean time zone, Central European time zone, or Eastern European standard time zone for the purposes of our collaboration hours
Our take
Spotify was founded in an attempt to combat the rampant music piracy that was causing significant harm to the industry. The company has since taken music streaming mainstream and now has 180m+ paying subscribers across the world.
With features that include a highly accessible interface and a vast catalogue of artists, Spotify's strong brand has been able to maintain growth in spite of fierce competition from deep-pocketed rivals like Amazon and Apple. The company has achieved this by making smart acquisitions to move into other verticals to strengthen its offerings, especially podcasting, by acquiring Gimlet Media, Anchor and Parcast.
Spotify's future plans include rapid growth with a goal to become a one-stop destination for all digital sound, as well as AI and NFT integrations. However, high costs incurred from the acquisition of exclusive podcasts, increasing competitor strength, and weak bottom-line growth mean that the company must find a balance to maintain its position in the sector.
