Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of experience in software development and testing
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. JS/TypeScript, Java, Swift, Go)
- Strong experience with test automation tools and frameworks (e.g. Selenium, Appium, XCUITest, Espresso, JUnit, TestNG)
- Solid understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile and Scrum
Desirable
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI)
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience with performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner)
- Experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, REST Assured)
What the job involves
- Crunchyroll LLC is on the lookout for a passionate and seasoned Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to elevate our engineering team
- As a Senior SDET, you'll be instrumental in ensuring our software products are of the highest quality and reliability
- You will be a vital part of the development team, advocating for top-tier test methodologies and best practices, providing feedback on developer-authored tests, and expanding automated test coverage with comprehensive end-to-end system-level tests
- This role will report into the Engineering Manager
- Mentorship & Best Practices: Lead and mentor on test methodologies, fostering a culture of quality
- Comprehensive Testing: Conduct testing for complex web, mobile, API, and backend services
- Coverage Enhancement: Review existing test coverage, identifying and addressing gaps
- Collaboration: Work closely with development, product, and design teams to translate requirements into effective test cases
- Automation Development: Evaluate, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites
- Strategic Improvement: Continuously assess and enhance the test automation strategy's effectiveness
- Performance Testing: Develop and execute performance and load tests to ensure application scalability
- Code Reviews: Participate in code reviews, providing feedback to enhance code and test quality
- CI/CD Management: Triage CI/CD and automation test failures
- Regression Testing: Perform regression testing upon issue resolution
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest testing tools and strategies

Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.
Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.
While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
