Who you are
- This role is perfect for someone with a strong grounding in UK & Ireland payroll, experience in a bureau or client-facing environment, and the drive to thrive in a fast-moving startup
- Excellent knowledge of UK & Ireland payroll legislation; US payroll knowledge is a plus
- Experience in client-facing payroll roles, ideally within a bureau or agency setup
- Confidence with payroll systems, HMRC submissions, BACS, Auto Enrolment, P11Ds, and payroll journals
- Solid Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel
- Organisational skills and attention to detail - you thrive when juggling multiple client deadlines
- Clear, confident communicator who can work across clients, third parties, and internal teams
- A sense of ownership: when you spot a problem, you fix it
- Startup mentality: proactive, resourceful, and comfortable wearing many hats
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Payroll Manager to take ownership of payroll operations for our clients, liaising directly with restaurant groups and our external bureau partners to make sure payroll is accurate, compliant, and headache-free.
- Client partnership: Act as the go-to payroll contact for clients, guiding them through onboarding, implementation, processing and ongoing support
- Processing: Manage the full payroll pipeline (from pre-sale through live), partner with Sales and CS, and own client payroll calendars
- Bureau management: Coordinate with our external payroll bureau to ensure accurate and timely processing for all client accounts
- Compliance & regulation: Keep payroll processes compliant with HMRC, PAYE, NI, pensions, holiday pay, and other regulations. Stay on top of legislative changes and drive updates internally
- Process improvement: Standardise workflows across clients, streamline for efficiency, and partner with Product/Engineering to help shape smarter payroll tools
- Internal expertise: Be the in-house payroll expert, answering queries and ensuring teams have the right documentation and guidance
Our take
Nory’s AI and automation software allows restaurants to more easily take control of common pain points like inventory, staffing, and marketing, all on one platform. What makes it a particularly interesting prospect is the value that it can offer multi-site restaurants or chains, given its ability to collect data on each location at once.
The company was launched by a former restaurateur, who had in fact built an early rendition of its current product for his own restaurant. It’s this certainty of purpose and value that’s helped Nory get off to a flying start, securing a rapidly growing customer base including Stonegate Pubs, Dr Juice and Viva Italia.
Having raised a significant amount of capital, most recently in a May 2024 Series A round, Nory aims to accelerate development and expand internationally. As the hospitality industry struggles with high costs and low margins, Nory's solution will be increasingly essential for restaurants seeking to optimize their operations and turn a profit.
