Who you are
- Deep understanding of object-oriented or functional programming
- Strong experience with third-party API integrations and managing external partner relationships
- Proven track record building and scaling microservices architectures
- Experience with event-driven architectures and high-volume data processing
- Ability to optimize poorly performing code, data queries, and network requests
- Strong grasp of microservices complexity and distributed system failure domains
- Experience with NoSQL databases and their trade-offs
- Skilled in troubleshooting large-scale production systems and articulating both short- and long-term solutions with trade-offs
- Commitment to code quality through multiple levels of automated testing

- Proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) for code generation, test creation, and optimization

- Experience applying AI-driven code review assistants to identify security vulnerabilities, style inconsistencies, and performance bottlenecks

- Strong programming skills in Go
- Experience with AWS services and cloud-native architectures
- Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra)
- MySQL or Postgres experience for specific use cases requiring relational data

What the job involves
- Fetch is expanding beyond receipt-based rewards to create new ways for users to earn points through experiences such as surveys, fitness challenges, and shopping activities
- As a Senior Software Engineer on the Point-Earning Opportunities team, you will build and scale the backend systems that power these initiatives
- This includes integrating with third-party partners and high-volume data providers to deliver seamless and rewarding user experiences
- You may join one of two teams driving this work:
- UNO Collective, which builds Fetch’s next-generation offers and rewards platform
- This team transforms diverse user actions such as watching a movie, exercising, or installing an app into meaningful point-earning opportunities
- Engineers in UNO own their verticals end to end and focus on creating transparent, measurable, and reliable systems that connect partner data to the Fetch ecosystem
- Shoppability Collective, which reimagines how users shop through Fetch by creating engaging, social, and rewarding experiences
- Engineers in Shoppability work in fast-moving, cross-functional teams that emphasize experimentation, iteration, and data-informed decisions to improve user engagement and drive revenue
- Across both teams, success in this role requires strong technical expertise in scalable microservices, complex integrations, and a product-minded approach to building systems that delight users and support Fetch’s growth
- Design and build scalable infrastructure to support diverse point-earning opportunities beyond receipt scanning
- Lead integration efforts with third-party data providers and affiliate networks
- Architect microservices that can handle high-volume event processing from multiple sources
- Collaborate with mobile engineering partners to build engaging user experiences
- Solve complex scalability challenges as we expand into new verticals
- Ensure reliability and performance across distributed systems handling various offer types
- Balance building new capabilities while maintaining support for existing architecture
Our take
Leading mobile shopping and loyalty platform Fetch has seen explosive success in recent years. Its concept is simple: users receive spendable points in exchange for scans of their shopping receipts.
The app has tens of millions of daily active users with even more downloads, and has seen impressive growth, having now reached 'unicorn' status twice over. This should come as no surprise. Brand reinforcement is crucial to customer retention and acquisition - but it is harder than ever, with the fragmentation of choice on the market and the declining efficacy of marketing. So material loyalty benefits are likely to prove a crucial tool in creating and leveraging a strong customer base.
Whilst Fetch faces competition from similar receipt-scan rewards platforms like ReceiptPal and Ibotta, it grew into a profitable company in late 2023. It is using its most recent Morgan Stanley-backed funding to aggressively add brand partners at a competitive pace and onboarding staff at a level that promises strong continued growth.
