Role
Who you are
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA or equivalent certification strongly preferred
- 7+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a managerial role
- Expertise in GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls, with proficiency in accounting software and financial systems
- Experience in healthcare or a related sector, particularly with Revenue Cycle Management (claims), is a plus
- A proven track record of effective financial management, strategic planning, and team leadership
- Proactive and driven by a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting
- A strong leader who can mentor and manage a team, providing both guidance and support
- Analytical, with a focus on continuous improvement in systems and processes
- Collaborative, able to work cross-functionally with IT and other departments to improve financial management systems
- Detail-oriented, ensuring that compliance and financial accuracy are always top priorities
What the job involves
- The Finance team plays a crucial role in Foodsmart’s growth and operational success
- The Controller will be responsible for leading all aspects of financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements
- Foodsmart is looking for an experienced finance professional who can provide strategic financial insights and leadership while maintaining strong internal controls and regulatory compliance
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
- Lead the budgeting process and collaborate with the FP&A team to develop financial forecasts
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and accounting standards while managing annual audits
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and monitor cash flow to meet operational needs
- Manage and mentor the finance team, fostering a collaborative, high-performance work environment

Since launching their app in 2011, Foodsmart has enrolled over 1 million users with demonstrated results. For example, Over 30% of obese subscribers have shown positive weight loss results, and subscribers with hypertension have shown an average reduction of 10 mm hg in systolic blood pressure. With registered dieticians consulting and guiding subscriber meal plans, the company has smartly carved a science-first niche in the multi-billion dollar meal plan delivery service market.
Foodsmart has worked with hundreds of employers including Walmart, Cigna, and Instacart to improve the health of their employees. Most recent funding comes from Houston-based Memorial Hermann Health System, with which Foodsmart hopes to advance its "food is medicine" philosophy, further enabling patients to follow through with specific, personalized nutrition guidance led by their physicians.
