Role
Who you are
- 2x mid-level Full Stack Engineers (around 3+ years commercial experience), ideally with time spent in a startup or scale-up environment
- You may lean slightly backend or frontend, but you’re comfortable working across the stack
- You’ll have commercial experience with our current stack:
- Laravel / PHP (core backend services & APIs)
- React, Next.js and/or React Native
- AWS infrastructure
- MySQL
- You care about code quality, performance and maintainabilityYou’re comfortable using AI tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude, Copilot) as part of your workflow — and know how to review, validate and improve AI-assisted output
- You’re ambitious, proactive and want your work to have visible, real-world impact
- You enjoy working in a close-knit, collaborative engineering team where voices are genuinely heard
- You’re based in (or can commute to) the North West and are happy with our hybrid setup
What the job involves
- This is a pivotal moment to join - we’re looking to double the engineering team and enter the most ambitious product phase in Housr’s history
- As a Full Stack Engineer, you’ll be a core contributor as we scale our platform, launch new revenue streams, and deepen the value we offer students, parents and partners
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs using the latest versions of PHP and Laravel
- Develop frontend experiences across React, Next.js and React Native (Expo)
- Work within an AWS environment (EC2, AppRunner, CodePipeline, S3, RDS)
- Collaborate closely with internal Product and Design teams - with clear ownership, strong feedback loops, and real influence on decisions
- Contribute to a clean, modular codebase with a MySQL database at its core
- Review code, share knowledge, and help shape best practices across the team
- Use AI tools in your development workflow (we actively encourage it) while applying sound engineering judgement and QA
- Work is planned collaboratively by Product and Engineering, ensuring the team is aligned, focused, and shipping meaningful improvements every sprint

- Third Stage - Remote hiring task to evaluate key skills for the role
- Fourth Stage - A single F2F interview split into two parts:
- Part 1 - A chance for us to chat through your task (what went well, what you’d improve with more time etc) (30 mins)
- Part 2 - Wider ranging questions about your experiences and motivations for working at Housr, approaches to certain scenarios, working style and what you’ll bring to this role (30 mins)

Our take
Founded by friends who met at university themselves, Housr is a rental app that utilises AI to reduce the hurdles for students looking to land a property. A seamless system for both landlords and renters alike, the streamlined system likens itself to Tinder, operating with the same ergonomic swiping system as the dating app.
It’s a savvy idea, and one that speaks to a whole generation of young people fed up with high prices and unsustainable living situations. The app not only works for renting a property, but for bill management and housemate searches too, reflecting a market trend towards all-in-one mobile applications. The bill management function allows seamless bill sharing between parties, whilst the housemate search uses the same swiping function to ensure a seamless customer journey.
Achieving three funding rounds in two years, Housr is definitely off to a promising start. Its next step will be to capitalise on its 186% year-on-year growth and expand its operations to universities in the USA.
