Role
Who you are
- 12+ years of work experience focused on marketing performance in a global or international organization in the entertainment, tech, media, or video game spaces
- 8+ years of people management experience
- Experience translating a global vision into regional programs
- Knowledge of the contemporary business, marketing, media, pop culture, OTT, and telco landscapes in the Americas region
- Experience leading complex, multifaceted deals and partnerships from a marketing performance perspective
- Experience managing external partners, agencies, vendors, and contractors
- Prior success in working in a matrixed and globally distributed organization with peers and partners in different time zones and locations across the world, with multiple cultures and backgrounds
- Spanish or Portuguese language skills
- Willing to travel domestically and internationally
- Anime knowledge is a significant plus
What the job involves
- As Director, Partnership Marketing, Americas, you will lead third-party distribution partnership marketing in the Americas region (United States, Canada, Spanish-speaking Americas, and Brazil) overseeing strategy and operations
- You will work with multiple teams and external partners to implement partnership marketing programs for SVOD subscriber growth and performance, expand awareness, and increase revenue
- Oversee all partnership marketing programs in the Americas, focusing on SVOD-earned media and working with high-profile brands such as Amazon, Apple, Roku, Comcast, Google and YouTube, PlayStation, Samsung, and many others
- Independently lead partnership marketing strategy and operations end-to-end, including legal and creative approvals
- Monitor and evaluate distribution partners’ marketing performance and identify ways to improve and make it more efficient
- Build business cases, projections, and metrics for programs in the region and evaluate distribution partners' proposals from a marketing perspective, measuring return on investment, level of effort, strategic and financial impact, and prioritizing them
- Develop frameworks to ensure processes are followed in the region and shared between regional and HQ teams within the context of partnership marketing, promoting knowledge, best practices, standardization, and learning sharing between teams
- As Director, Partnership Marketing, Americas, you will report to the VP, GTM & Partnership Marketing
- Both domestic and ever-expanding international efforts fuel Crunchyroll's growth. The GTM & Partnership Marketing team works with global regions to support and bring to life Crunchyroll’s Strategy & Planning’s vision, goals, and priorities
- The team also works to support app distribution, channel, and partnerships from a Marketing perspective to delight and super-serve anime fans, expanding our footprint and brand awareness while making Crunchyroll synonymous with anime worldwide

In recent decades, anime - encompassing Japanese, Korean, and Chinese animation 0 has transitioned from a niche interest to a formidable industry, boasting a global market worth approximately $30B. Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.
Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.
While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
