Role
Who you are
- 6+ years of hands-on experience with large, complex data sets and delivering analytics solutions in fast-paced or scaled environments
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics…); advanced degrees and/or specializations a plus
- Highly proficient in SQL, with the ability to write efficient, optimized queries for large-scale datasets
- Demonstrated experience with data modeling, dimensional modeling, and dbt
- Experience building and maintaining dashboards in Looker or similar BI tools (Sigma, Tableau, etc.)
- Experience with code management and deployment on GitHub
- Demonstrated ability to lead analytics or reporting projects end-to-end, from scoping to stakeholder communication
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, including business stakeholders, data engineers, and product teams
- Experience working with event data or user/product analytics tools (e.g., Heap) is a plus
- Passion for data and its fundamental ability to create value
- Extremely curious and excited to dive into complex problems
- Self-driven, proactive, and comfortable operating with ownership and ambiguity
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Data Analytics Manager to lead high-impact analytics initiatives and manage key data models that describe our customers and business
- In this role, you will partner cross-functionally with business leaders across the organization
- You will own the creation of rich reporting and data visualizations, enabling functional leaders to quickly digest information and make data-driven decisions
- In collaboration, you will define KPIs and set attainable, stretch goals to drive continuous improvement
- You will be a key contributor to the culture of the team, and you will have opportunities for growth and leadership as we expand
- This role will require strong analytical judgment, ownership, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- The role will be an individual contributor (IC) to start, and will evolve into people leadership over time
- Lead strategic analytics initiatives by partnering closely with cross-functional teams to identify, scope, and fill data visibility gaps
- Work with Product and Engineering teams to ensure we collect the data required to support business objectives
- Develop scalable, reusable, and well-documented data models that power dashboards, reports, and analysis across the organization
- Collaborate closely with Data Engineering to design, optimize, and maintain data pipelines, ensuring data availability, accuracy, and efficiency
- Analyze key areas of the business to uncover opportunities for optimization, experimentation, and strategic improvements
- Define and monitor KPIs to influence decisions throughout RTR
- Build, maintain, and monitor robust, user-friendly Looker dashboards and reports, ensuring stakeholders have access to up-to-date insights
- Drive best practices across the Data Team, including data governance, performance optimization, and documentation
Our take
Rent the Runway seeks to profit from two important trends in apparel consumption: wanting to stay on top of the latest fashion trends while living and purchasing sustainably. By providing a platform for women to rent designer pieces, its users can have it all.
The company allows users to rent, subscribe, or buy designer apparel and accessories. It achieves this with its network of partnerships with hundreds of top designers and managing the crucial but complicated logistics in-house. It offers its partnered brands sophisticated analytics about potential customers in return for lower prices on designer garments.
Rent the Runway is now focused on diversifying revenue streams while reducing its costs. Its recent partnership with Amazon is an example of this new direction: while it will use this channel to sell clothes previously rented through its platform, it will, for the first time, be selling new clothes based on rental items modified in line with market data.
While moves such as this may well shift Rent the Runway towards profitability, it also risks undercutting the company's central message of sustainability and supporting the circular economy. The company believes that by creating better quality clothing, it will nonetheless be aiding in the fight against fast fashion. Time will tell if this move helps or hinders the sustainability movement, but it is likely to boost Rent the Runway's bottom line regardless.
