Who you are
- 8+ years in data engineering, including 3+ years managing teams of 5+ engineers
- Technical Expertise: Proven experience with distributed systems (Spark, Hadoop) and modern data stacks (dbt, Airflow, Kafka). Advanced SQL/Python skills
- Leadership: Track record of elevating team performance, managing underperformers, and retaining top talent
- Communication: Exceptional storytelling and presentation skills; able to engage C-suite audiences
- Collaboration: Known for building trust across teams and resolving conflicts with diplomacy
- Innovation: Passion for exploring new technologies (e.g., GenAI/ML ops pipelines, real-time analytics) to solve business challenges
What the job involves
- We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Engineering Manager, Data Engineering to lead our team and drive Aircall’s next phase of growth
- In this strategic leadership role, you will oversee the design, development, and evolution of our enterprise data infrastructure while fostering a high-performing team culture
- You will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, translating technical capabilities into business impact and championing innovation in data engineering

- You will elevate team productivity, mentor emerging talent, and ensure our data platforms scale seamlessly to meet Aircall’s ambitious goals
- Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing data engineering team, setting clear expectations and fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and accountability
- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for skill development and career growth
- Champion best practices in code quality, data governance, and operational excellence, ensuring adherence to SLAs and compliance standards
- Oversee the design and optimization of large-scale data processing platforms (e.g., Spark, Flink) and cloud-native solutions (AWS preferred) to support business-critical pipelines
- Drive the adoption of cutting-edge tools and frameworks to improve data reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
- Partner with Data Science, Analytics, Sales, Marketing, and Product teams to align infrastructure roadmaps with evolving business needs
- Simplify complex technical concepts into actionable insights for executives and non-technical stakeholders
- Present data platform strategies, ROI analyses, and risk assessments to senior leadership to influence decision-making
- Build strong partnerships with Engineering, DevOps, Product, and Business teams to break down silos and deliver cross-functional solutions
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment where team members feel empowered to innovate and share ideas
- Balance high standards with empathy, ensuring the team remains motivated and engaged during fast-paced growth
- Educate business stakeholders on data engineering best practices, emerging trends, and cost/benefit tradeoffs
- Advocate for data-driven decision-making by showcasing how scalable infrastructure unlocks business value
- Represent Aircall as a technical leader in industry forums, conferences, or open-source communities
Our take
Call centres have been a mainstay of sales teams for decades, with the human touch delivering an impression conversion rate of about 30% for inbound calls. However analogue call centres are physical infrastructure-heavy and unable to take advantage of the flexibility afforded by remote and hybrid ways of work. Aircall exists to change that, providing a cloud-based call centre infrastructure that allows sales teams to work from their home offices.
Aircall isn't the only company in this space, and it faces heavy competition from Cloudtalk, another cloud-based call centre solution. However Aircall stands out in the market by its use of open APIs and webhooks, making integration with existing productivity and helpdesk tools much easier, and its superior call quality. Aircall has developed a significant customer base with these strengths, with over 15,000 companies using its platform.
The company has raised significant funding in recent years, highlighting the confidence investors have in their offering. With a rapidly expanding presence in the US, European, UK and Australian markets and recent refresher leadership hires, Aircall could soon be a widely recognised international player in the telephone software industry.
