Who you are
- 5+ years of hands-on full-stack engineering experience
- Mastery of CS fundamentals, either through a formal university program or through self-learning
- Expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript
- Expertise in building secure, stable and scalable Node.js back-end services and an understanding of cloud infrastructure necessary to power said services
- Experience designing SDKs with clean and intuitive APIs, and similar developers tooling
- Experience with Web3, Ethereum, and tooling such as Viem or Ethers
- A track record of successfully shipping products to customers
- A strong sense of ownership in your work, which drives you to find ways to do things better and faster
- A detail-oriented approach to work, always making sure to output high-quality work through rigorous testing
- A security-first mindset, proactively identifying and addressing potential vulnerabilities in code
- A curious mind, constantly on the lookout for new technologies and innovative ways to solve complex problems through experimentation
- A collaborative, open communication style, with a willingness to embrace feedback and pursue continuous self-improvement
What the job involves
- At Offchain Labs, we steward the giant technical ecosystem around Arbitrum technology bridging across a broad variety of products and use cases
- As part of the Full Stack Engineering team at Offchain Labs, you'll be leading the effort to develop and optimize our tech, including services powering our consumer-facing apps, internal services, various developer tools, and more, using your expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript
- We’re looking for someone who is genuinely excited about blockchain, has excellent communication abilities and is enthusiastic to learn more from the team, including our CTO
- Contribute as an expert in JavaScript and TypeScript
- Work on Node.js back-end services focused on blockchain, Ethereum scaling with Arbitrum, onchain apps, and more
- Work on developer tooling and SDKs that will help people build awesome products
- Keep up-to-date on the latest technologies and developments in the space
- Communicate in a style that is open, transparent, and direct, and consistently work in tight collaboration both with your teammates and other teams
- Look for ways to help out beyond the scope of your day-to-day work
Our take
The Ethereum blockchain has seen a surge in activity over the past year or so - but, much to users' frustration, its transaction volume has failed to scale accordingly, leading to hefty gas fees and slow transaction times. Offchain Labs is one of a few players developing Layer 2 rollup solutions, and its Arbitrum rollup has gathered substantial momentum and support in a relatively short time.
Offchain Labs’ Arbitrum claims to offer all the benefits of a rollup - less costly, more efficient - without compromising on security. It is, at the time of writing, the only scaling solution for Ethereum that has working fraud proofs, and at the end of 2021 was dominating the layer 2 rollup market share.
This kind of high profile and superior efficacy determines a successful blockchain technology. With Offchain Labs’ leadership pedigree, it’s no surprise the company is leading rollup innovation efforts. This sector, however, moves at lightning speed—and the competing ZK rollups are by no means out of the picture just yet.
