Role
Who you are
- Master's law degree or JD, Bar qualification required
- Minimum 5 years PQE
- Solid knowledge of contract law and copyright law, familiar with the software industry and cloud service industry. With rich experience in reviewing and revising cloud service agreements, SLA, SOW, DPA, etc
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to act independently and reliably under time pressure and on multiple tasks, cooperative and team-oriented working style
- Solid integrity and sense of responsibility, enthusiastic, proactive
- Preferably with prior experience in the cloud service/database/SaaS industry
- Working experience in MNCs as in-house counsel is an advantage
What the job involves
- Work as the Regional Legal Counsel, providing daily legal support and advice to all BUs and functions of NA & EMEA Group of PingCAP, especially the Sales team
- Draft, review and revise contracts, and other legal documents related to Cloud Service, including Cloud Service Agreements, Service Level Agreements, Data Processing Agreements, Statements of Work, Master Service Agreements, etc
- Assist the business with contract negotiations for the clients and business partners, as well as helping to win customer deals and trust in a professional and efficient manner
- Provide legal advice to the line of business in a broad range of areas including Cloud Service, Technical Services, Data Security/Privacy Compliance, and employment law including anti-discrimination, FCPA, EAR, etc
- Advise local management on business-related issues that have legal or compliance implications; conduct legal & compliance training in the line of business
- Monitor new legislation and law enforcement, analyze the implications on PingCAP thereof and advise corresponding strategy and actions
- Proactively identify risks and report and manage key risks
- Other legal related projects/program based on company and local business needs and legislation update
Our take
Frustrations with the available database solutions are what inspired PingCAP. When three infrastructure engineers got together, their aim was to eliminate the issues with management, scalability and maintenance of databases by creating their own open source distributed database.
With worldwide contributions from like-minded developers, the cloud-based NewSQL database TiDB was created. It soon gained great popularity and so, being open source, is constantly being enhanced.
With the creation of a product that eradicates the problems faced when attempting to scale up traditional relational databases, a wealth of data migration tools and no vendor lock-in, TiDB is an attractive proposition for businesses that need future flexibility. Notable clients include China Zheshang Bank, PatSnap and leading Asian logistics company Ninja Van.
With the backing of $270 million Series D funding in 2020, TiDB continues to grow, and a portfolio of complementary products is in development. It also gained positive publicity from its receiving the award for Open Source Data Solution Provider of the Year from the Data Breakthrough Awards 2024.
