Who you are
- You have at least 1 year of leadership experience with operational background
- You have experience working with internal and external partners to optimize processes (via project management support)
- You are KPI and SLA driven - you are able to develop metrics and report against them
- You have experience and skills in project management
- You drive to make things happen instead of wondering why things happened
- You place customers first and you make no compromise on this
- You’re a strong communicator with both internal and external stakeholders, straight up and honest. You can adapt your communication style to different audiences. You’re able to persuade others and you aren’t afraid to challenge something when you need to
- You know how to use data to prioritize tasks that have the most value-add to customers' and measure the impact
- You’re comfortable working within teams that face complex issues and take charge in difficult situations
- You enjoy creating an inspiring team environment where ideas are shared and openness is valued. You’re comfortable and composed when either giving or receiving feedback
- You have a passion for technology, customer experience, and you want your work to have a positive impact on people
- You’re a great relationship builder, experienced at working closely with external partners as well as product development teams, including product managers and engineers

What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Payment Operations Team Lead for the NorthAm Regional Team to join our team in our Austin office
- Taking ownership of part of operational payment process
- Acting as the first level escalation point for the team as well as internal and external partners
- Developing a strong Operations team and support specialists on their personal growth paths
- Setting goals for the Operations teams and reporting against them, monitoring team’s performance metrics
- Managing team’s resources and their relevant skills, ensuring at all times a high-quality, high-speed workflow with optimal coverage
- Driving operational excellence, while building sufficient controls and assessing and mitigating operational risks
- Ensuring the team’s readiness to handle unexpected situations
- Guaranteeing process documentation within own area
- Guaranteeing team’s input and participation in regional and central Operations planning
Our take
Wise started when the two founders realised they would be better off trading Estonian kroons for British pounds (and vice versa) between themselves rather than going through banks. That was back in 2011, and they've since grown Wise into one of Europe's most successful tech businesses, exchanging billions of currency every month.
Wise rapidly grew by solving a significant problem for customers, who lost too much money to banks when exchanging currency. They've attracted investment from some of the best investors in the world, from Andreesen Horowitz to Index Ventures and even Richard Branson.
The challenge for Wise will be maintaining their edge and brand power in a market that's becoming increasingly crowded with new entrants (like Revolut and Monzo) and incumbents (traditional banks) trying to catch up. To do so, the company is ramping up its digital and marketing strategies, as well as pushing for further development of its existing products.
