Who you are
- 10+ years of experience in strategic corporate communications, media relations, public affairs, or public relations
- Proven experience leading communications in mission-driven or social impact context, with a deep understanding of values-based storytelling and advocacy
- Proven track record of shaping media narratives and leading successful engagement with top-tier and agenda-setting media outlets that reach tens of millions weekly
- Demonstrated success in securing and sustaining high-profile media coverage that aligns with organizational goals, mitigates reputational risk, and drives meaningful brand and mission outcomes
- Experience advising executive leaders and serving as a trusted partner in high-stakes public communications, including crisis response, executive visibility, and brand repositioning
- History of leading and mentoring high-performing comms teams, building scalable systems, and managing complex, cross-functional initiatives that integrate media, messaging, and campaign goals
- Exceptional, high-trust network of key media decision-makers – including senior editors, executive producers, influential journalists. Proven ability to mobilize network to secure high-impact coverage
- Extensive experience & network in political/advocacy campaigning, lobbying and social impact creation across main channels such as broadcast (TV & radio), social media and Newsletter/email
- Extensive executive, corporate and crisis communication skills, both written and verbal, with a track record of influencing diverse audiences, from internal leadership to global media
- Drives strategic alignment across cross-functional teams and external partners. Ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and influence at the highest levels to advance Change.org’s brand, reputation, and impact
- Deep understanding of the evolving global media and communications landscape, can identify the most influential platforms and voices. Uses data-driven insights to guide teams in driving awareness, adoption and engagement
- You use insight, performance data, and AI tools to plan, pitch, and adapt for maximum impact. You are building systems and tools, such as testing frameworks or lightweight automations, that improve quality and efficiency across the team
What the job involves
- Change.org is searching for a Head of Communications to lead the execution of Change.org’s presence in Germany
- As a key member of our Marketing & Communications Team, you’ll lead the development of Change.org’s overarching brand & media strategy, oversee high-impact storytelling, top-tier media engagement, and a network of influential relationships to civil society & politics
- Key Outcomes:
- Lead our growing German Marketing & Communications team to support high-impact campaigns across the democratic political spectrum that make big waves in the media, shape public discourse, deepen brand relevance, and drive awareness, adoption, and affinity
- Oversee and grow a network of high-leverage relationships, including senior editors, producers, journalists, decision makers, politicians, civic organisations and influencers with the aim of putting change.org at the heart of the zeitgeist
- Set and deliver a national media strategy that consistently secures top-tier coverage for Change.org petitions across the democratic political spectrum, demonstrating a high impact, open platform for every day citizens
- Identify and amplify opportunities for Change.org petitions to gain traction on social media, driving virality and cultural relevance while expanding reach and engagement across diverse audiences
- We are open to three different levels of seniority for this role (Senior Manager, Associate Director, Director)

Change.org is a global online website that has hosted millions of petitions since it launched in 2007, including dozens of notable cases that have led to significant worldwide change. Of interest, too, is its voluntary 2021 recognition of its staff’s labor union; at the time it was the largest tech company to do so.
Change.org remains the leading player in online petitions, generating revenue from petition promotions and subscription memberships. This revenue has raised some eyebrows - but Change.org has successfully withstood skepticism about its legal status as a business rather than a non-profit. It has demonstrably facilitated speed and scale for the social change platform and has allowed the company to comfortably retain salaried employees.
The company has become the world's largest nonprofit-owned tech platform after it transitioned to 100% nonprofit ownership following donations of equity from its investors including Reid Hoffman, Bill Gates, and Richard Branson.
