- You have advanced end-to-end payroll management experience, including multi-state and international payroll processing (US, Canada, UK)
- You have strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance, labor laws, and statutory benefits across multiple jurisdictions
- You have proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems (ADP Workforce Now required; Deel Global Payroll preferred), with experience in data integrity management and troubleshooting
- You have experience with payroll audits, reconciliations, and process improvements to ensure accuracy and compliance
- You have a deep understanding of payroll deductions, including garnishments, 401(k), Health Savings Accounts, and other statutory withholdings
- You have proven ability to handle escalations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions in payroll operations
- You have strong cross-functional collaboration skills, working effectively with HR, Finance, Accounting, and external vendors
- You have advanced technical skills in Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, and Slack for payroll reporting and data analysis
- You have industry knowledge of local, state, federal, and international payroll regulations, with a keen eye for compliance
- You have the ability to manage high-volume, time-sensitive payroll tasks, including multi-pay period payout schedules
- You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and discreet, with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- You’re creative and innovative; you love to build great new things that are fresh and unique while staying on brand

What the job involves
- We are hiring a HRIS & Payroll Manager to join our People Operations team
- This position reports to the Director, People Operations and takes Away further by ensuring employee data is precise, payroll runs seamlessly, and every paycheck is processed accurately, on time, and efficiently
- You’ll process payroll across multiple entities, including the US and Canada (bi-weekly) and UK (monthly), ensuring accurate and timely payroll execution
- You’ll ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and international tax requirements, statutory benefit withholdings, and labor laws while proactively addressing regulatory changes
- You’ll manage all payroll changes, including salary updates, back-pay, deductions, bonuses, garnishments, and final pay processing, while ensuring accuracy and proper documentation
- You’ll maintain employee data across HRIS and payroll systems (ADP, Deel, etc.), ensuring seamless integrations, accurate reporting, and timely updates for new hires, terminations, and compensation adjustments
- You’ll conduct regular audits, reconciliations, and compliance checks to ensure payroll accuracy, proper tax filings, and adherence to state-specific regulations (including multi-jurisdictional payroll complexities)
- You’ll identify inefficiencies in payroll processing, system integrations, and reporting, working closely with the Director of Operations to drive automation and reduce manual efforts
- You’ll serve as the escalation point for payroll discrepancies, system errors, and employee payroll concerns, ensuring swift resolution and proactive communication
- You’ll partner with Accounting & Finance to provide detailed payroll reports, labor cost analysis, and insights for budgeting and forecasting
- You’ll manage relationships with payroll vendors (ADP, Blue MarbleDeel, etc.), ensuring system enhancements, compliance updates, and troubleshooting support
- You’ll work closely with Finance, HR, Benefits, Legal, and Accounting to ensure payroll accuracy, alignment with company policies, and a seamless employee experience
- Our working hours are 9am-6pm et, but we embrace a common-sense approach to flexibility in the workplace

With simple touches like adding a mobile charging pack inside the suitcase, it has given luggage a big overhaul, and has survived through both a global pandemic and controversial former CEO.
The company, now headed by co-founder Jen Rubio, spent some time revamping its core business and working on its workplace culture, and has successfully grown its internal infrastructure and retail presence in the last couple of years. In 2022 it partnered with United - its first partnership with a major airline - to provide customers with onboard amenity kits, which represents another step in the company's impressive return to form.
