Company mission

To empower independent businesses across the UK to offer the best deliveries on Earth, saving them time, money and stress, and putting their customers in control.

Role

Who you are

  • We’re looking for a designer to join our team, you'll be fairly senior or perhaps mid way through your career and ready to take the next step
  • You'll be an exceptional visual designer, have a great product-mindset, keeping users at the heart of how you think, and have a passion for designing great things which last
  • You already have past experience of product and visual design, and will be as comfortable in Figma as you are in illustrator
  • You're an experienced Mid-to-senior Product Designer, exceptional in product and visual design, comfortable in Figma
  • You’re excited about what we’re doing! We’re a technology company working in a very traditional industry and that gives us a huge opportunity to build something truly different
  • You’re comfortable getting hands-on in a very early stage startup environment. We’re still a small team and so you’ll be involved in everything
  • You care about the users we are creating products for, being happy to speak to them directly, and love building beautiful products
  • You are comfortable in the face of ambiguity and are happy to take on problems without a clear definition or solution
  • You care about the team and culture we are building, and understand the importance of giving feedback and supporting others around you

What the job involves

  • We’re a new courier company in the UK looking to radically improve the delivery experience for everyone involved. From the people receiving a delivery, to the company sending it and all the folks in the middle like drivers and warehouse managers. So far things are going
  • We design and build everything in-house from mobile apps for drivers, branded tracking for recipients, and software for route planning and warehouse management. But also fun physical things which you’re less likely to find in other places. Think: the labels which appear on the boxes, the signage around the hub or how our electric vans look out and about
  • As we're a start up every day is different, you’ll need to be flexible switching between working on our products one day and supporting sales or marketing the next
  • You're excited to go out and do deliveries with a driver, visiting merchants, handling packages within the depot, and moving beyond ‘design’ when needed, so you get to experience the context you’re designing for first hand
  • As the first designer to join me, you’ll be central to setting the culture of the team going forwards. This is a unique opportunity for you to help shape what we build, and how the world sees us. There’s still so much to do and learn, in every aspect of Packfleet — we’re only just beginning our journey!
  • You’ll be joining a highly talented team who have come from places such as Monzo, Citymapper, Apple & Skyscanner. They’re all an absolute dream to work with and a real wholesome bunch too
  • Crafting a visual identity which matches our world class ambitions
  • Designing new features in our product that improve the lives of our merchants, recipients, drivers or our internal operations (or all of the above!)
  • Chatting with folks in the team about how we design a feature, whether they’re an engineer or a designer or operations manager
  • Sharing your opinions on goals, operational problems, hiring, etc. and giving feedback to others to help us do the best we can
  • Chatting with users to gather feedback or help them solve issues they’re having to improve our product for everyone
  • Occasionally getting hands-on, going out with drivers to do deliveries or handling packages in the depot, to get an end-to-end understanding of the problems we’re trying to solve
  • Getting the opportunity to input into other areas of the business that interest you, whether that’s helping on sales, refining our operations, or anything else

Our take

Whilst it has never been simpler to start and run an eCommerce business, current courier and logistic solutions still lag behind, and often hinder growth.

Packfleet is addressing this issue for small to medium-sized companies by re-designing the delivery process. Its service saves customers money, time, and stress with app-based tracking, seamless interactions, and next-day delivery, all with a simple, transparent pricing structure.

There is considerable opportunity within the £6bn UK parcel market, as eCommerce continues to rise in popularity. Packfleet is currently operating exclusively within London. They will be using their recent funding to expand their customer base and develop their product.

Josh Garnham (Co-founder)

  • If we want to solve problems for people across the UK (and one day around the world), our team has to represent those we’re solving them for and it's important to us that we build an environment that supports and includes them
  • We realise that D&I has to permeate everything we do, from our culture to the product we create and the responsibility we have for its wider societal impact
  • We also know that work shouldn't be all-consuming and that life outside of work is just-as-if-not-more important. We encourage folks to take holiday, with monthly days of rest, flexible hours and socials designed to be be inclusive of all
  • We believe in transparency, and this applies to levels and pay too, which are internally transparent to encourage fairness and help us make tough decisions and not bias to those who are good at negotiating
