Our take
Founded in 2015, Canvas is an EMR (Electronic Medical Records) startup that helps medical company stakeholders keep track of their patient's data. Utilizing a workflow system that auto-fills information, everyone from physicians and social workers to insurance companies can quickly and easily get hold of the information they need to do their jobs efficiently and effectively.
Founded by data scientist Andrew Hines, Canvas was inspired by his wife Anna, a nurse practitioner. As she wasted hours in her job charting her patients using dropdowns and templates, Hines set out to create software that could save her, and people like her, precious time in their job.
With recent years putting ever more pressure on the US healthcare system, it’s unsurprising that investors such as Inspired Capital and IA Ventures have jumped to the Canvas cause, helping them achieve Series B funding as of 2022. Though the aim of the company wasn’t to only focus on healthcare, its user base in this sector rose by 300% between 2021 and 2022. Regardless, Canvas could see an expansion into other sectors in the future.
