Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of experience support tax information reporting, withholding and tax document management
- Understanding and expert knowledge of:
- Reporting Requirements supporting IRS Forms 1099 series, and IRS Forms 1042 series
- IRS TIN requirements and associated forms (W-9, W-8)
- Experience working with compliance on Tax and/or Regulatory inquiries
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- FINRA Series 7 and 99, and/or FINRA Series 27 (or capability to acquire within 3-6 months of hire)
- Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Office applications, or equivalent Google Applications
- Intermediate to advanced understanding of Broker-Dealer back office functions and associated regulatory requirements
- Strong validation skills for reviewing large data sets to identify data integrity issues and patterns
- Experience with Shadow Suite is a plus
- Experience and/or in-depth understanding of Digital Assets a plus
What the job involves
- Primarily responsible for management of Client Tax Reporting for Prometheum Capital
- Leading the firm’s ongoing assessment of client tax reporting requirements and related underlying processes supporting client tax reporting, and the subsequent implementation of identified requirements, including:
- Defining tax reporting requirements for US and Foreign clients, including applicable withholding/remittance requirements
- Ensuring that transactions, including corporate action events, trading activity, etc., are processed and recorded appropriately within the Firm’s back office system
- Classification of transactions to reflect appropriate tax reporting, including contributing to assessment and mapping of transactional data as it populates downstream to tax reporting vendor systems
- Functioning as point of contact for vendors supporting cost basis and tax reporting
- Partnering with internal stakeholders, particularly Product Delivery Managers, to coordinate assessment or required implementation actions
- Review and/or draft related operational desktop procedures and policies
- Management of Client Tax Reporting processes as implemented
- Establishment of internal processes and controls designed to ensure:
- Ongoing complete and accurate 1099 reporting of client transactions
- The Firm’s compliance with all applicable IRS client identification and withholding/remittance requirements
- Appropriate vendor oversight
- Establishment of related KPI and management reporting
- Provide business analysis for Operations-owned initiatives and serve as liaison with IT on both Operations and firmwide initiatives
- Assist in the creation of technical business requirements in driving operational efficiencies, mitigating risk/errors, leveraging technology, implementing industry best practices, monitoring contractual risk, and enhancing the client experience
- Review existing processes, identify process improvement or automation opportunities to drive operational efficiency
Our take
Prometheum is leveraging blockchain technology to build an end-to-end ecosystem for the trading, custody, and settlement of digital asset securities. Its flagship product, an SEC-registered digital asset Alternative Trading System (ATS), has been in development for a number of years.
This hasn’t dissuaded investors who see the benefit of a platform that enables better regulation of digital asset trading. In doing so, the potential for more widespread participation increases greatly.
The company has had some major victories thus far which could help set it apart, including SEC and FINRA approval, as well as a partnership with Anchorage Digital Bank.
Of course, Prometheum’s success will ultimately depend on the efficacy of its offering, but given the funding already committed to the project and its 2023 announcement that it's searching for up to $7,500,000, in equity investment it’s likely that the company is set to grow rapidly over the next few years.
