Role
Who you are
- 1+ years’ of professional experience with modern web programming languages (Python, React, etc.)
- Degree in Computer Science, or related
- Foundational exposure to fullstack development, with a basic understanding of how frontend interfaces interact with backend APIs and databases
- Interest in working on technical projects from inception to delivery
- Feeling right at home in the terminal and comfortable with basic version control (Git).Strong written and oral communication skills
- Availability for occasional on-call requirements outside of standard business hours as you learn to monitor and support production systems
What the job involves
- Software Engineers at Level 1 work in cross-functional teams alongside Engineers, Product Managers, and Designers to bring their engineering skills to bear on exciting business challenges
- You will focus on building a strong technical foundation by executing on well-defined tasks, fixing bugs, and contributing to feature development
- At our company, we hire for the organization first. While you will be placed on a specific team—such as Payroll, Accounting, Payments, or Core Platform—our fluid structure means you may move between teams as business needs evolve, allowing you to gain broad exposure to different domains
- Feature Execution: Deliver high-quality code for features and bug fixes as defined by your team’s sprint goals
- Code Quality: Write clear, concise, and well-tested code
- Testing & Maintenance: Implement unit and integration tests to ensure reliability and assist in maintaining existing codebases
- Collaboration: Actively participate in team rituals and engage in peer code reviews to learn from more senior engineers

Over 90% of all businesses in North America are zero to five employee companies. These businesses are organising their finances either by paying an expensive accountant, or relying on traditional spreadsheets.
In response, Wave is democratising access to financial services software. While it is not the first to do this, it has taken the flourishing approach of giving away the invoicing and accounting software 100% for free.
The company instead makes money by embedding financial services products within the software. It's these payments and other revenue streams that the startup is now looking to expand to secure more revenue to scale.
While the company has had success so far with its tools, it will need to build a whole suite of products and services in order to compete with the accounting software giants like Xero.
