Who you are
- Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Physics, Computer Science, Computational Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, or related engineering field or equivalent experience
- Experience in using deep learning methods, such as large language models, reinforcement learning, as well as other machine learning methods, in a scientific context, and at large scale
- Familiarity with using high performance compute clusters and multi-GPU servers
- Familiarity with the commonly-used ML toolkits, such as PyTorch and TensorFlow
Desirable
- Familiarity with quantum computing concepts, or a related field such as quantum many-body physics
- Experience contributing to open-source software
- Strong background in software engineering, specifically experience in scientific software development
What the job involves
- As a Machine learning Engineer in the AI for Quantum team, you will use state-of-the-art methods, in collaboration with quantum computing scientists, to solve hard problems arising in the full quantum computing stack, such as circuit compilation, searching for error-correcting codes, even identifying quantum advantage by providing the quantum computer as a backend to a tool-using AI system
- Develop software infrastructure to facilitate the application of ML methods to solve problems in the quantum computing stack
- Write code to enable the running and recording of large-scale experiments in improving the quantum computing stack, using existing ML libraries when appropriate
- Run experiments in improving the quantum computing stack

The processing power of quantum computing (QC) promises to yield substantial advances across dozens of diverse industries, from the development of pharmaceuticals, to the chemical industry and financial services. Billions are being poured into the steady development of these computers, both into the hardware and the specialised software which can harness these devices.
Quantinuum was formed out of the merger of Cambridge Quantum and Honeywell, QC software and hardware firms respectively.
