Who you are

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of proven experience in software development, with a focus on backend and infrastructure
2+ years of experience with TypeScript and NodeJS
Experience writing RESTful APIs with Express or any equivalent web framework
Strong experience with CI/CD (GitHub Actions is a plus)
Strong experience with containerisation (we use Docker)
Great English communication skills
Team player, proactive, well-structured, and organized—fearlessly embracing growth with sharp critical thinking
Taking ownership and relying on delivering things on time and with high-quality
Based in Europe, in a time zone between UTC-1 and UTC+3 (-2/+2 hours Amsterdam time), and willing to join our company events 4 times a year

What the job involves

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Production and Reliability Engineering (PRE) team of our rapidly growing medical AI company
You’ll be working with an accomplished remote team of a dynamic mix of Backend Developers and Infra/SRE Engineers
In this role, you will play a pivotal role in designing and improving the quality, scalability, and accessibility of our API; your expertise will drive AI success for our users
You will collaborate closely with other web and ML product teams to understand their needs and provide robust innovation solutions to tackle their requirements
API Excellence: Collaborate on design, reduce complexity, and add features. Embrace best practices
Continuous Improvement: Propose enhancements, from code to docs. Own solutions and leave things better than you found them
Team Collaboration: Engage with engineers, nurture partnerships, and build trusted solutions
Compliance: Safeguard user data in our regulated AI medical field
Our backend is mostly written in TypeScript and Python, and all our machine-learning applications are in Python
We have an efficient and effective design and development process around RFCs, PR reviews and pair programming
Our whole stack runs on AWS using EKS, and we deploy our infrastructure changes in a GitOps pipeline using CDK
Our applications are deployed in a GitOps fashion using ArgoCD

Our take

Dental technology has advanced in leaps and bounds in recent years, but there is still room for innovation. With a global shortage of qualified dentists there has never been such a need to find efficiencies in the dental workflow. Promaton wants to automate this process using AI image analysis, speeding up dental care and allowing more patients to be treated.

Promaton builds on the advanced tech already used in dental clinics - like CBCT and digital scans - to power AI workflows that automate treatment planning across implantology, prosthetics, and orthodontics, through a key partnership with the Straumann Group that's helping scale its technology on a global scale.

While there is competitors in the AI-assisted dentistry space, Promaton's focus on implantology and orthodontics faces no major competitors. Its specialisation and strong industry partnership position it as a quiet leader in a fast-growing field.
