Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of experience building scalable systems and applications using Node.js and TypeScript, ideally hosted on AWS
- At least 3+ years of experience with AWS
- Profound experience building serverless architectures (e.g. AWS Lambda and AWS API Gateway) and event-driven architecture
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases, ideally DynamoDB
- 3+ years of experience with a component-based frontend framework like React
- Strong sense for good API design and knowledge of third-party API integrations
- Knowledge of analysing metrics about system health and performance (CloudWatch, PagerDuty, Rollbar)
- Can-do attitude to build MVPs and iterate on them in short cycles
- Testing experience on different levels: unit, integration, contract, and E2E

What the job involves
- As part of the B2B Live team, you will help shape the architecture of our scheduling and booking systems and enhance their capabilities while keeping a close focus on maintainability and scalability. You will work in a diverse and fast-paced environment with an up-to-date tech stack based on serverless principles and event-driven architecture
- Collaborate cross-functionally on feature design, architectural decisions, and assessing technical debt
- Shape our coding guidelines and quality standards
- Create user interfaces for a smooth user journey between booking and the virtual classroom
- Build APIs to integrate B2B Live with frontend SPAs, as well as with third-party tools

Babbel is one of the leading lights in the language eLearning sector. Its premium subscription-based online learning resources cover over a dozen predominantly European languages, at all proficiency levels. They include interactive lessons and podcasts - all developed and delivered by professional educators and linguists.
Learning languages online has become big business in recent years, and this has led to a surge of VC investment in the sector. This diversified the field of competition, tripling revenue for smaller rivals like Busuu and driving up engagement on online tutoring sites. It has ramped up pressure on incumbents like Babbel, and its better established (but pricier) competitor Rosetta Stone, to diversify their offerings.
To get there, Babbel has taken a smart cue from live tutoring sites like Preply, which also saw a surge in engagement over recent years. Babbel has launched its own live tuition offering, and additional B2B services, demonstrating a savvy use of its leading position and strong resources to keep a tight grip on its substantial market share.
