Who you are
- The ideal candidate is a curious, data-driven individual with a strong background in statistics, machine learning, and business analytics
- Experience: 4+ years of experience in a data science or analytics role, with a focus on growth
- Analytical Mindset: You have a strong business acumen and can connect data findings to business outcomes
- Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related discipline
- Technical Skills:
- Programming: Proficiency in Python (for data analysis and modeling) and SQL (for data extraction and manipulation)
- Data Science: Strong knowledge of machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and experimental design (A/B testing). Experience with attribution modeling and incrementality testing is a significant plus
- Data Modeling: Familiarity with dbt (data build tool) and experience with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes
- Tools: Experience with data visualization tools like Looker, Tableau, or Power BI

What the job involves
- We're looking for a Growth Data Scientist to join our team. You'll play a critical role in driving our company's growth by using data to identify opportunities, optimize user acquisition and retention, and inform product strategy
- This role is for someone who is not just a data analyst but a strategic partner in the growth of our company
- You'll be at the forefront of decision-making, using data to directly influence how we acquire and retain users
- Analyze Growth Funnels: Deeply analyze user behavior across the entire customer lifecycle, from acquisition and activation to retention and referrals. Identify key drop-off points and opportunities for improvement
- Build Predictive Models: Develop and deploy machine learning models to predict user churn, lifetime value (LTV), and conversion probabilities. Use these insights to personalize user experiences and optimize marketing campaigns
- Design and Analyze A/B Tests: Partner with product and marketing teams to design, execute, and analyze A/B tests and other experiments. Use statistical rigor to measure the impact of new features and campaigns
- Optimize Marketing and Product Decisions: Work closely with Growth teams to drive data-driven decision making. Use techniques like attribution modeling to understand which channels are most effective, and incrementally testing to measure the true impact of marketing campaigns
- Build and Maintain Data Models: maintaining and developing data models in our data mart to ensure data is clean, accessible, and reliable for business analysis
- Develop Dashboards and Reports: Create and maintain dashboards and reports that provide stakeholders with a clear, real-time view of key growth metrics (e.g., DAU/MAU, churn rate, LTV, CAC)
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with product managers, engineers, and marketers to translate data insights into actionable strategies that drive growth
- Communicate Insights: Effectively communicate complex findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences through presentations, reports, and clear visualizations

Founded in 2015, Stash was created in response to studies showing that 44% of Americans don’t invest in stocks, 70% of households don’t have a long-term financial plan, and 68% are afraid to retire. Stash offers beginner retail investors the tools to invest small amounts in stocks and exchange-traded funds. It aims to help new investors learn the ropes, offering preference-tailored guidance and digestible investment summaries.
Its service, although pricier than competitors like Wealthfront and Acorns, remains competitive through its highly educational and beginner-friendly focus. This is a lucrative feature for Stash, given the recent surge in first-time and amateur retail investors. The company has more than 6 million customers, and its assets under management total about $3 billion.
Its focus on long-term profit over day trading is refreshing in the retail investment app market. It could prove especially attractive to its younger customer base (average age 29), who are on the whole trending away from traditional legacy banking and looking towards new, innovative financial platforms.
Stash was not immune to the market turmoil of 2022, which particularly impacted the fintech sector, and was forced to restructure. Having streamlined the business, it received major funding and a leadership change in 2023. Stash is now setting its sights on an acquisition or public offering in the near future.
