Role
Who you are
- 1+ year of DevOps experience in designing and operating large-scale deployments of RabbitMQ, Redis, Kafka, or similar open source messaging and caching technologies
- 2+ years of software engineering experience using one or more of the following: Java, Scala, C/C++, Golang, Python
- A consistent track record of technical project leadership and success involving collaborators and interested partners across the enterprise
- Expertise in developing distributed system software and deployments that perform well and degrade gracefully under excessive load
- Expertise with configuration management using Chef and service deployment on Kubernetes via Helm and ArgoCD
- Experience with NoSQL caching and database technologies like Redis
- Development experience with a wide range of programming languages, for example, Java, C/C++, Erlang, Python, Golang, etc
- Experience learning complex open source service internals via code inspection
- Experience with Linux system internals and tuning
- Experience with distributed system performance analysis and optimization
- Etrong written and oral communication skills and the ability to explain esoteric technical details clearly to engineers without a similar background
What the job involves
- The Data Persistence and Messaging (DPM) team is a full-service DevOps team. We architect and provide messaging, streaming, and caching solutions such as Redis, Kafka, and RabbitMQ to internal teams to enable new Workday features
- We develop Java client libraries that make it easy for other teams to use our solutions. We develop automation to deploy and run hundreds of clusters, and we also operate and tune our clusters as well
- As a DPM team member you will play a key role in improving our services and encouraging their adoption within Workday's compute infrastructure
- As a member of the Messaging, Streaming and Caching technologies team you will design and build new capabilities from inception to deployment to exploit the full power of DPM services, and work hand in hand with our application and service teams!
