Role
Who you are
- You have an in-depth understanding of Software and DevOps methodologies, automation, and infrastructure as code
- Your experience in designing, building, and scaling high availability systems shows your commitment to operational excellence
- You excel in a collaborative environment and can work well with your teammates, providing a good example to other engineers to achieve high quality and standards in everything they do
- At least a Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology, information systems, or similar
- 8+ years of experience working in production-level environments as a DevOps/SRE
- Proficient in AWS cloud technologies, coupled with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) such as Pulumi and Terraform
- 3+ years of experience managing containerized infrastructure in ECS or Kubernetes
- Experience in GitOps practices and CI/CD
- Experience managing Linux based infrastructure
- Experience with observability and instrumentation of services so that efficient dashboards and alerts are created
- Familiarity with relational databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL and non-relational databases like MongoDB, DynamoDB
- Experience with CDN and caching technologies including AWS CloudFront
- Experience working with and guiding Software Engineers in production best practices, sharing knowledge across teams and teammates
- Experience in at least two or more scripting languages including TypeScript
- Able to accommodate periodic off-hour meetings with the international team members
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with stakeholders
- Participate in an on-call and developer support rotations
Desirable
- Knowledge of streaming video delivery, video encoding workflows, video origin architecture, and issues of scale for video delivery
- Proficiency in TypeScript
- Familiarity with big data and payments domain
- Understand security concepts such as cryptography, authentication, authorization, and security protocols
- Familiarity with Datadog
- Familiarity with GitHub Actions
What the job involves
- As a Senior DevOps Engineer within the Core Infrastructure team, you are a key person in managing and scaling the systems and services that power our streaming platform
- Your expertise in cloud technologies and DevOps methodologies enables you to take on complex challenges independently and create scalable solutions that meet our customers' needs
- You will work with our delivery teams and lead projects, driving them forward to completion and ensuring that the platform processes and best practices are being followed
- In collaboration with other engineers, you develop tools and systems that support services and facilitate high-quality software delivery
- You will work with our delivery teams to ensure that their systems are efficient and reliable, guide them to better quality and practices including observability and troubleshooting of services & incident management
- You are expected to take initiatives to improve what we do overall, introduce new technologies & processes when it is needed and share knowledge across teams
- You will report to the Senior Manager, Core Infrastructure Engineering

In recent decades, anime - encompassing Japanese, Korean, and Chinese animation 0 has transitioned from a niche interest to a formidable industry, boasting a global market worth approximately $30B. Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.
Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.
While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
