Who you are

5+ years of platform experience on a product engineering team
Strong backend development skills, with hands-on proficiency in Ruby on Rails or Go
Deep knowledge of SQL / relational databases. Postgres? Even better
Experience designing and building large-scale systems
Extensive experience designing APIs and an understanding of API-first development
Desire to work on a backend-heavy platform team
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS/GCP), containers, container orchestration(e.g., Kubernetes) and infrastructure‑as‑code is a plus
Exposure to event-driven or streaming systems (e.g., Kafka) is a plus
Interest in AI-assisted tools and workflows to accelerate development and improve product quality
An appetite for learning, experimentation, relentless curiosity and an ability to leverage what you learn to make our products better

What the job involves

A critical area for ezCater’s growth over the coming years will be solidifying the current order capabilities and building the next features which will service the full spectrum of corporate Food for Work needs
As a member of our Orders Core Services team, you’ll be close to the systems that every ezCater order runs through
By strengthening our core data models and APIs and improving performance at scale, your work will help other teams ship faster, reduce operational friction, and make the ordering experience more reliable
Bring your knowledge of distributed systems to build highly-scalable, fault-tolerant systems in a hybrid monolithic/microservices architecture
Partner with our data technology organization to enable detailed insight into our orders, unlocking future roadmap opportunities across the org
Work cross-functionally with product managers and business stakeholders to understand the complex processes that drive order fulfillment
Make an impact working on projects that will drive growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction across ezCater
Continuously look for opportunities to improve system performance and reliability (we believe speed itself is a feature)
Partner with fulfillment and customer care teams to improve the experience for customers, catering partners, delivery drivers, and customer support agents

Our take

ezCater is an online marketplace app that provides catering options for businesses, working with food providers who enter their menus onto the app for customers to browse. ezCater sends each store its orders and handles customer service while the food providers fulfil the orders.

ezCater profits by charging a small commission on all orders that restaurants fulfil. The company counts JLL, RingCentral and the San Francisco 49ers among its customers. It previously fuelled expansion through acquisitions such as online catering platform GoCater in 2018 and MonkeySoft Solutions in 2019.

ezCater has enjoyed strong growth so far, in part by focusing on meal deliveries to a growing hybrid workforce as an employee benefit. It has been eyeing an IPO for some time, though these plans are yet to come to fruition. In the meantime, it has continued to develop its technology and unveiled a new supplier diversity program to uplift small businesses owned by underrepresented groups.
