Role
Who you are
- 7+ years of experience in the Information Security field, including operational security monitoring experience with tools such as osQuery and Crowdstrike
- Strong background in corporate security systems and best practices relating to zero trust environments, Okta, Google Workspace, BeyondCorp, email security, etc
- Experience developing tools and automation using common devops toolsets and programming languages
- Experience working in or with SRE or detection engineering and response teams Excellent communication skills - ability to serve as a security advocate and evangelist
- Demonstrated experience in collaborating and driving cross functional initiatives

- We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Senior Security Engineer to join our Corporate Security team
- This role presents a unique opportunity to shape the direction of corporate security at Instacart, ensuring the protection of our corporate systems, and sensitive data
- From securing our internal tools to safeguarding identity and access management systems, you’ll play a pivotal role in detecting and mitigating risks in our corporate environment

- We work across all layers of our infrastructure to ensure we deploy trustworthy systems and protect our customers’, shoppers’, and partners’ data
- As the first engineer dedicated exclusively to corporate security, you will have the opportunity to define our corporate security strategy in collaboration with IT, engineering, and legal teams
- You’ll also lead the implementation of security tools, frameworks, and processes to enhance the overall security posture of the company’s internal operations
- The Corporate Security team ensures Instacart’s internal networks, corporate assets, and employee workflows are secure, scalable, and resilient
- Our mission is to develop proactive security solutions that protect the company while enabling efficiency and operational velocity
- You will partner closely with multiple teams, primarily Corporate Engineering, to design and implement end-to-end security solutions
- Infrastructure Engineering - To ensure that corporate security controls are built into our engineering workflows
- IT-Corporate Engineering - To build with and help them prioritize the right security improvements which ensure minimal impact to employee velocity
- Instacart Platform - To help them have best in class security in their own corporate environments
- Deploy systems and automations that ensure our corporate environment has best in class security
- Be the security partner for our IT-Corporate Engineering team. Uplevel their security skills and ensure they continue to prioritize security effectively
- Own and manage Instacart’s corporate security roadmap, and work with our detection and response team to ensure controls are monitored
- Develop and operationalize our vulnerability management program for our corporate network and assets

Instacart is an online grocery marketplace that operates a pick-up and delivery system in the US and Canada. Unlike standard grocery shopping, Instacart sends a “personal shopper” to your local store to buy your products, who then delivers them straight to your door on the same day via their own car. The company also supplies the Instacart Platform, with services for stores encompassing eCommerce, fulfilment, in-store, ads, and insights.
The increased modernization of society has meant more than ever that consumers are looking to buy their groceries online, making space for apps like Instacart to become daily life staples for years to come. Although the company must compete with other grocery store delivery services, such as Walmart’s own, it has expanded to cover large percentages of US and Canadian households, and is now aligned with over 900 retail banners across more than 75,000 locations.
Instacart's software offerings signify the company's focus on tech, designed to move it away from its dependence on the gig economy. To this end, the company has acquired FoodStorm, an order management system that powers end-to-end order-ahead and catering, integrating its technology into its enterprise suite. Despite an IPO in September 2023, market downturns have necessitated a 7% workforce cut in 2024, focused on middle management and creating a flatter organisational structure. With a new streamlined workforce, here's to hoping Instacart can maintain its momentum.
