Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of Product Management Experience (ideally in enterprise facing products or recommendation/optimization systems)
- Has a high level of taste, judgment, and customer empathy, and considers themselves the steward of creating great product experiences
- Demonstrates an ownership mindset, taking initiative to address obstacles that stand between customers and solutions
- Proven executor who thrives in fast-paced, early-stage environments
- Strong written and verbal communicator with a talent for clear articulation of customer problems
- Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research to build buy-in from internal stakeholders and leadership

What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to lead the development of Wayfinder, Sofar’s Voyage Optimization web product. Built on top of the world’s best marine weather forecasts, Wayfinder is used aboard the largest shipping vessels in the world, providing critical decision-making context for captains as they navigate the world's oceans.
- Global shipping accounts for approximately 3% of worldwide carbon emissions, and by optimizing routes for Captains and Operators, we can make a huge impact on profits and sustainability
- You will collaborate with our Head of Product to define a strategy and roadmap to serve the multi trillion dollar shipping industry. You will develop a deep understanding of our customers and their workflows. You will collaborate with engineers, scientists and designers to prioritize and translate their needs into software. You will own the full lifecycle of research, ideation, prototyping, development, testing, measurement and analysis
- Own the vision, strategy and roadmap for Wayfinder, aligning it with company objectives
- Deliver against company-wide business targets and product success metrics
- Partner with engineering, design, and GTM teams throughout the product lifecycle
- Lead product discovery to identify and prioritize high impact problems that we are uniquely able to solve for our customers
Our take
Drastically changing weather and climate is one of the foremost issues of our time. And as we work to limit the impact of the climate crisis, we need trustworthy banks of data on how these changes have manifested, and what trajectory our world is on. This is where Solar Ocean comes in, with its global network of ocean-monitoring buoys.
It is the largest network of its kind, with thousands of solar-powered ‘spotters’ across the world’s oceans delivering over 200,000 updates every day. Its product is used primarily by climate scientists, but also has important applications in shipping, weather forecasting and maritime research as well.
Sofar is the largest network of its kind, and even though its spotters aren’t as sophisticated as similar government-funded ones, the sheer scale of its data collection makes its forecasts far more accurate. The funding it has raised is supporting the further extension of its network and development of its data services.
