Role
Who you are
- 3+ years experience as an engineering manager and 5+ years as a software engineer
- Proven success leading a team through rapid growth, ideally in a startup or high growth environment
- Have a proven ability to set and execute a strategic vision, especially in dynamic environments with competing priorities
- Ability to deeply understand and challenge technical decisions while trusting your team
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills across functions
- Track record of shipping product in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Empathy for users, a product sense for what matters, and a bias toward action
- Experience with modern web development technologies (React, GraphQL, Typescript, Python, etc.)
What the job involves
- The New Initiatives team is a new product engineering team focused on building innovative tools that elevate the way Dandy delivers care
- This team will design and develop new products that improve the clinical experience for doctors and their staff—whether through smarter workflows, real-time feedback, and entirely new capabilities that enhance outcomes and efficiency
- The team will explore opportunities across the care journey to make Dandy’s offering both delightful and drive better clinical outcomes
- If you’re excited by 0-to-1 challenges, rapid iteration, and the chance to shape a strategic new initiative from the ground up, this is the team for you
- Lead a strong full stack engineering team, fostering a high-performance, high-trust culture
- Drive execution across the stack — from early scoping to production reliability
- Partner closely with Product, Design, and Operations to define and deliver roadmap priorities
- Make pragmatic technical decisions and help your team balance speed, quality, and maintainability
- Own delivery, accountability, and operational excellence for your team’s systems
- Recruit, onboard, and mentor engineers to build a cohesive and inclusive team
- Drive career development and performance management for your reports
- Help define and evolve Dandy’s engineering practices, architecture, and culture
Our take
Dentistry, a $400B industry, has long relied on outdated practices. Dandy was created to modernize and simplify dental operations by integrating technology into every aspect of the dental practice. Its goal is to streamline workflows, making dental practices more efficient and easier to manage.
While other startups have tried to bring technology to the dental field, Dandy distinguishes itself by understanding the industry's complexity and respecting the way dentists operate. Rather than overwhelming practitioners with a complete overhaul, Dandy introduces new features gradually, such as digitizing dental labs for procedures like crowns and implants. It makes the dental experience seamless for both sides of the chair, and to date, more than 2 million people use a Dandy dental product daily.
Dandy aims to build a full operating system for dental practices, offering a "business-in-a-box" solution that allows dentists to focus on patient care while the platform handles administrative and operational tasks. While this vision has the potential to bring immense value to a field in need of innovation, the challenge lies in overcoming dentistry's resistance to change. Patience and persistence will be key as Dandy reshapes how dental professionals run their practices.
