Who you are
- 4+ years of relevant events and/or community experience, with a specific track record in hosting player or customer events
- Comfortable traveling and working solo in different cities around the United States hosting player events
- Thinks creatively, and loves innovating while following established processes
- Undeterred by quick turnaround times, multi-step approval processes, and trying new things
- Good at paying attention to details, communicative, self-motivated, and works well with others
- Keeps up to date with social media, community, and gamer trends
- Experience in community building and knows how to complete online & offline activations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately, with adaptability to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice
- Experience working on cross-functional teams with the ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including synchronous interactions with others

What the job involves
- As the Monster Hunter Now Community & Events Manager for the United States, you will help develop community strategies for Niantic's real world augmented reality mobile games
- You will coordinate community events and player meetups to attract and retain players
- Work with product managers and marketers to plan and implement engaging events and meetups
- Conceptualize, coordinate, and host engaging community player meetups and in-person events based on the Monster Hunter Now mobile game across the United States
- Work with other international Community & Events Managers and Niantic marketing partners to develop a template for events that can be replicated
- Keep a pulse on the local player landscape by tracking players' behaviors, comments, trends, talkability, and content
- Identify relevant insights from online community performance and offline community conversations to help report to the team on players’ opinions and requests about the game
- This is a contractor position and the work should be performed based on service agreement and SOW
Our take
Niantic, Inc. is a software development company creating augmented reality mobile games, such as Ingress, Pokémon Go, and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, that encourage players to go outside, explore, and meet people. The company was formed in 2010 as an internal startup within Google. Since its inception, hundreds of millions of people have used its products and services.
Although Niantic made a name for itself in the mobile gaming industry through the success of Pokémon Go, the company is hoping to become a platform for other developers to build location-aware AR apps on top of. In 2022, it released a location mapping software for AR, allowing AR experiences to be grounded to a physical location, like the front of a building or a park monument, rather than just floating aimlessly through a phone’s camera view.
Niantic plans to use this platform for an AR-based metaverse, an alternative to Meta’s plans for a VR-based metaverse that renders us bound to VR headsets. The company believes that an AR metaverse on a 3D map of the world will play a critical role in the next transition in computing, and raised funds to make this vision a reality in 2021.
