Role
Who you are
- EBachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field; advanced certifications in risk management or fraud prevention are a plus
- 8+ years in risk management or fraud prevention directly managing Fraud Operations teams, ideally in a high-growth or tech company, with proven leadership in strategy and execution
- Strong knowledge of fraud detection tools, payment processing, and financial crime prevention technologies
- Familiarity with payments, card networks, and dispute processes, with a focus on industry standards and emerging trends
- Experience in regulated financial services, with review of such activities as payments (ACH Debit etc), money movement, disputes, chargebacks, AML, and compliance frameworks such as KYB/KYC.In-depth knowledge of the financial services/banking regulatory environment: FACT Act, Bank Secrecy Act, Suspicious Activity Reporting (SARs), Reg E, FINRA/SEC, etc
- Skilled in managing cross-functional teams and third-party relationships, with clear, effective communication
What the job involves
- Ottimate is seeking an experienced and proactive Director of Risk and Fraud to lead our fraud and payments risk program
- This critical role will shape and execute a strategic approach to fraud prevention, detection, and risk management across our growing organization
- As the directly responsible individual for this area, you will collaborate with product and operations teams, along with external partners, to ensure Ottimate’s continued security and growth
- Reporting to: Melissa Johnson
- Define and operationalize Ottimate’s fraud and payments risk strategy in collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners
- Act as the accountable individual in setting, monitoring, and achieving data-driven goals across stakeholders
- Fully understand and optimize the end-to-end customer journey, balancing user experience with robust security measures
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to establish risk product requirements focused on fraud prevention, detection, and response
- Develop and implement fraud/risk rules and strategies to improve detection accuracy with a focus on automation and scalability
- Partner with risk management to co-create policies, procedures, and controls that align with third-party fraud standards, setting benchmarks within the industry
- Identify and mitigate risks related to technology and financial operations while maintaining compliance with external fraud prevention programs
- Work closely with the data team to develop and refine models, address data gaps, and incorporate new variables to improve risk assessments
- Establish and maintain relationships with key fraud and risk management vendors, including card acquirers, banks, and payment networks

Our take
Accounts payable is a cumbersome side of financial management for the hospitality and restaurant sectors. High volume of deliveries of variable frequencies and size, along with the substantial chance of damage to perishable items, means that keeping track of short-term credit to various sellers is a tricky business. With belts having been drastically tightened across the hospitality sector in recent years, labor-intensive paper invoicing and back-office administration no longer cuts the mustard.
Plate IQ’s solution is to effect digital transformation across B2B payments and accounts payable in the hospitality sector. The company’s VendorPay allows customers to make payments directly to over 200,000 vendors straight from their AP platform, thereby streamlining and resolving the late payments issue that’s been growing steadily in the sector over recent years.
Margins in the sector are famously tight, so even the most modest of operational improvements can make substantial gains for hospitality businesses. Indeed, over 20,000 restaurants, hotels and grocery chains across the US are using Plate IQ’s platform, including leading brands such as Best Western, Holiday Inn and Foodtown.
Following a high degree of fundraising, the company has developed its product to suit verticals outside the hospitality and food sectors, and is now offering its services to accounting firms and other businesses. Building on past successes this area may grow to be the central plank of Plate IQ's offering going forward.
