Who you are

- Master's degree (required), Ph.D. (preferred) in a quantitative discipline such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field
- 10+ years of hands-on experience deploying and scaling large language models (e.g., BERT, GPT) for real-world clinical applications
- 5+ years of progressive experience in a leadership role, managing exceptional technical teams
- Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Pyspark, R, and SQL, and familiarity with cloud-based data platforms like Databricks and Amazon Sagemaker
- Translate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences, with experience with storytelling and data visualization
- An understanding of healthcare data standards, privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA), and ethics considerations related to data use
What the job involves
- As Senior Director, Data and Science (Data Development), you'll lead our Data Development team, harnessing real-world medical data to produce life-saving insights and create advancements across ophthalmology, neurology, and urology
- You will lead the development of Verana Qdata®, our data platform that is reshaping drug lifecycle management and clinical practice
- You will work with a vast and growing network of de-identified patient data from over 20,000 clinicians, giving you the power to improve healthcare outcomes at scale. This is more than just a job; it's a chance to be at the forefront of a data revolution in medicine
- Reporting directly to the SVP of Data and Science

- Lead and inspire a team of top-tier data scientists and engineers, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and learning
- Guide the integration of complex clinical data from diverse sources, including electronic health records (EHRs) and medical imaging, ensuring data quality and integrity
- Architect, develop, and implement state-of-the-art algorithms for data processing, advanced modeling, and insightful interpretation, using the latest advancements in NLP and deep learning
- Collaborate with teams across the organization, including Commercial, Product, Medical, and Engineering, to define data requirements, translate business needs into technical solutions, and deliver impactful insights that inform strategic decision-making
- Establish and advocate for best practices for the data exploration lifecycle, ensuring efficient and reproducible research
- Mentor team members in machine learning and natural language processing standards, promoting their professional growth and expertise
- You'll lead the charge in harnessing the power of AI to accelerate clinical research, personalize patient care, and improve outcomes across multiple medical specialties

Verana Health is taking a unique approach to patient care by creating the largest clinical database in the medical industry. Its database allows physicians to gain a deeper understanding of patients' conditions to provide faster and more efficient treatment options.
Currently, Verana organizes and analyzes electronic health record systems run by three professional organizations: The American Academy of Ophthalmology, The American Academy of Neurology, and The American Urological Association. Then, it delivers insight back to practitioners, researchers, and life sciences companies. Since its founding, Verana has become an exclusive data management partner for these professional networks.
What sets Verana apart is its approach to medical data, utilizing analytics and real-time clinical results to reinvent medical research. Although the company currently focuses on three major disease areas of ophthalmology, neurology, and urology, it has its sights set on new types of medical data.
