Who you are

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field
A proven track record, with 5+ years of hands-on experience in architecting scalable API development, distributed system architecture, guiding projects from initial ideation through to successful production deployment
Exceptional programming skills in Python, as well as adeptness in SQL or SparkSQL
Versatility that spans the entire spectrum of data engineering in one or more of the following areas:
In-depth experience with data stores such as BigQuery and Postgres
Proficiency in data pipeline and workflow orchestration tools like Airflow and DBT
Expertise in data processing technologies and streaming workflows including Dataflow, Spark, Kafka, and Flink
Competence in deploying and monitoring infrastructure within public cloud platforms, utilizing tools such as Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Datadog
Proven ability in loading, querying, and transforming extensive datasets

What the job involves

The Data Product team collaborates with an experienced group of data scientists, engineers, and product managers to build highly scalable features that power TRM's products and services
As a Software Engineer on the Data Product team, you will be responsible for designing and building mission-critical data services. These features analyze and provide insights into blockchain transaction activity at petabyte scale, and ultimately work to build a safer financial system for billions of people.
Build highly scalable features that integrate with dozens of blockchains
Design and architect intricate data models for optimal storage and retrieval to support sub-second latency for querying blockchain data
Collaborate across departments, partnering with data scientists, backend engineers, and product managers to design and implement novel data models that enhance TRM’s products

Our take

The crypto space has become more mainstream but it is also intensely volatile and poorly regulated, with a high degree of anonymity afforded to its users. As such it has become a major source of financial fraud with $20 billion in crypto stolen in 2022 alone. TRM Lab exists to return trust to the blockchain, helping banks, government agencies and crypto companies detect and combat fraud with its blockchain intelligence solutions.

As the risk of blockchain fraud is only increasing, with the proceeds often being used for organized crime, there are a number of companies working in this space. TRM stands out with the breadth of its crypto asset coverage and the strength of its cross-chain analytics. It has partnered with the FBI and Europol to aid its investigations, and is also used by major crypto companies MoonPay and Binance.

The company has grown its revenue by almost 500% year on year since its founding in 2018, and has raised a significant amount of capital. With the funding its secured, its further developing its product and hiring additional talent. And as businesses and government agencies increasingly come to grips with fraud in the crypto space, TRM is well poised to continue its rapid growth.
