Who you are
- You are passionate about consumer technology, business strategy, building new opportunities, and growing relationships
- 7+ years in business analysis, consulting, professional services, business development, strategy and/or program management experience
- An understanding and interest in Lyft’s products and competitive landscape
- Experience with 2-sided marketplaces
- High degree of comfort working with product and technical teams. Technical knowledge of product integrations a plus
- Analytical, strategic thinker and data driven, but also a creative problem solver
- Ability to make thoughtful, actionable recommendations under minimal structure, and quickly build consensus with internal and external stakeholders
- Collegial, high energy, and persistent personality, and excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
- Great sense of humor!
What the job involves
- Lyft is looking for an Senior Business Development Manager to oversee the market and competitive research, pipeline development and partner prospecting to support the Rider Business Development and Strategic Partnership team
- This team launches, manages, and scales key partnerships for Lyft that drive ride and revenue growth
- These partnerships spread across a number of verticals and product areas, including Travel, Rewards, and Pay partners
- Reporting to the Director of Rideshare Business Development, you will join a team that accelerates growth and drives revenue for the largest line of business
- Be on the leading edge of helping to shape Lyft’s strategic priorities and the future of transportation
- Lead the overall strategy and process for evaluating and onboarding net new partners
- Research and analyze marketing opportunities, competitive data, and category partner opportunities
- Leverage data and insights to drive strategy recommendations and partner initiatives
- Build and share learnings and best practices based on partner performance and effectiveness
- Support the launch of strategic partners to align with and exceed Lyft’s company objectives, product priorities and key business metrics
- Develop and maintain cross functional relationships across the company with Product, Legal, Marketing, FP&A, Science and other key internal partners
- Join customer facing calls to support partner managers and act as the domain expert
- Own all financial and analytics reporting for your strategic segment, participating in regular business reviews with leadership and stakeholders
- Support quarterly business reviews with partners to align on upcoming opportunities
Our take
Lyft has aimed for consistent growth, making sure to pitch itself as a more reliable and friendly ride-sharing option than its main competitor, Uber. Uber has a greater market share and operates globally, but Lyft hopes to compete by its focus on ride-sharing over Uber's more diversified business approach and as a more rider-friendly and greener alternative to Uber.
Operating only in the USA and Canada, Lyft is in a position of being less affected by global events than Uber but also more vulnerable to local conditions. As an example, while it doesn't face the regulatory hurdles around employment rights that Uber does, it is unable to balance out the cost of the unusually expensive US auto insurance across its operations.
In 2022, Lyft acquired PBSC Urban Solutions, a bike-share equipment and technology supplier, allowing Lyft to compete in new verticals and reaffirming its commitment to green transportation. It has also trialed and launched Lyft Assisted, where drivers help passengers from their door into the car to get to medical appointments. These developments chime well with Lyft's unique selling point as a friendlier and more environmentally aware ride-sharing app.
