Who you are
- No previous experience is required for this role, we're happy to speak to fresh graduates straight out of university or their LPC or BPTC
- You might already have your training contract or pupillage locked in and want to experience something different for a while, perfect!
- Or if you're currently working as a paralegal or legal assistant and fancy a change of scenery then get in touch
- Problem-solving prowess. Legal work at Zinc is characterised by a dynamism which means creative and pragmatic problem-solving is a necessity for delivering excellent work and infallible legal solutions
- Impeccable attention to detail. We move at lighting pace at Zinc but we can’t let things slip - in Legal, we mitigate and protect against risks, we don't want to make errors which create risk
- Strong communication skills. You’ll be working with stakeholders across and outside the business, top notch communication is a must have
- Ownership and autonomy. You’ll be given real responsibility from day one and will be expected to run with it and learn on your feet
- Organisational excellence. Projects and tasks come in thick and fast, you’ll need the ability to prioritise and manage your own workflow
What the job involves

- As a Legal and Compliance Executive at Zinc you’ll be joining the Legal and Compliance department at an exciting time of growth
- Already a team of five, we’ll be closer to ten by the end of the year and you’ll be a core part of that growth
- You’ll be managed by and work directly with our Associate Legal Counsel on commercial contracts, legal research and due diligence processes, making an impact on our revenue goals from day one
- You’ll work alongside a pod of other Legal and Compliance Executives and have real autonomy to shape the work that you tackle
- As a VC backed scale-up, Zinc will provide you with the opportunity to work on high impact projects right from the get go, giving you opportunities and responsibilities you wouldn’t otherwise have in a large law firm or traditional in-house paralegal role elsewhere
- Negotiating and drafting mid-market commercial contracts, working directly with our sales team and helping them get deals over the finish line
- Working on supplier or due diligence questionnaires - we handle a lot of data at Zinc and our customers put us through the ringer
- Legal research on issues brought to us by our Customer, Revenue, People or Product teams
- Assisting our Head of Legal on Ad Hoc projects and tasks, giving you real exposure to work that impacts the business on a strategic level
- Assisting with data impact assessments, privacy impact assessments and data subject access requests

The existing processes for referencing and background checking suffer from notable inefficiencies, marked by biases, time-consuming procedures, and an intimidating experience for candidates. Addressing these challenges, Zinc Work aims to solve these processes by introducing an automated reference and background-checking solution.

Funding secured in 2023 was led by esteemed financial services investor AVP (AXA Venture Partners) and supported by Seedcamp, and will facilitate the launch of groundbreaking industry initiatives. These include the introduction of the first reusable global Right To Work check, the first Employment verification reference integrated with HMRC, and a background check template library collaboratively contributed to by over 40 Zinc Work customers. This financial injection underscored Zinc's commitment to innovation and reinforced its position as a trailblazer in the realm of automated reference and background checking solutions.
