Role
Who you are
- Master’s degree or better in computer science or similar
- Expert knowledge of probability, statistics and algorithm development
- Expert knowledge of Python
- Experience of machine learning tools (e.g. Tensorflow, PyTorch, sci-kit learn, Keras etc.)
- Experience of statistical software languages e.g. R
- Knowledge of genomics, bioinformatics, NGS, or related field
- Experience of building cloud and on-premises software services
- Energised by being part of a department with specific commercial remits to achieve
- Able to work under time pressure, clearly prioritising work to achieve goals
- Self-motivated and results-driven, problem-solver
- Friendly, approachable and builds positive personal and organisational relationships

What the job involves
- You will use your skills to improve genomic healthcare for people worldwide
- You will design and implement machine learning algorithms, advising the team on optimisations and scalability, and setting the highest standards for future activity
- You will be accountable for the quality of the software which places new algorithms into production
- Develop high-quality implementations of ML algorithms into our production software
- Analyse and fine-tune algorithms to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Advise on scalability and performance optimisation for both cloud and on-premises services
- Communicate your ideas for potential improvements as the models are iterated
- Work with the Director of Data and Informatics to realise and inform the overall strategy
- Work with Engineering and Quality Assurance colleagues to bring software to production
- Build trusted relations with colleagues including Data, Bioinformatics and Clinical Scientists, as well as other partners and stakeholders
