Role
Who you are
- We are looking for someone who leads through craft, cares deeply about clean architecture, and enjoys lifting the capability of those around them
- Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot and related frameworks
- Deep understanding of API design, integration and security
- Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
- High level of proficiency with React and modern JavaScript or TypeScript
- Knowledge of testing frameworks like Jest, React Testing Library and JUnit
- Experience designing, delivering and maintaining complex software systems
- Comfort translating specifications into actionable deliverables
- Track record of mentoring or coaching developers
- Ability to balance speed with technical rigour and code quality
Desirable
- Familiarity with distributed systems or microservice architecture
- Experience working with NoSQL databases
- Exposure to tools such as Kafka, Redis or PubSub
- Knowledge of state management libraries like Zustand or Redux
- Comfort with Docker, Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure
- Experience in DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
- Interest or experience in AI or data-heavy feature development
- Working knowledge of Python

- We are hiring a Senior Full Stack Developer to help us build secure, scalable and forward-thinking products that make board-level decision making smarter, faster and more effective
- This is a hands-on role where you will work across our React frontend and Java backend to deliver high quality projects at pace
- You will guide the technical direction of our products, mentor other developers and help shape the systems that power our platform. You will be at the centre of delivering AI-powered features, internal tools and critical services that require reliability and performance
- You will be supported by a team that values clear thinking, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
- Deliver key product features using React and Java with a focus on performance, security and scale
- Lead engineering work on projects ranging from AI integration using Vertex AI and the Agent Development Kit to critical internal systems
- Contribute to architectural decisions and help shape how we build and maintain scalable, maintainable services
- Drive delivery standards and technical quality across the team
- Act as a mentor to other developers, supporting their learning and growth
- Develop RESTful APIs and scalable backend services using Spring Boot
- Implement and maintain responsive, accessible user interfaces
- Optimise SQL queries and database structures
- Write and maintain unit and integration tests
- Contribute to our documentation, standards and development processes

Board Intelligence has been helping boards to make smarter, faster decisions for more than 2 decades and it has been turning that knowledge into software since 2008. With over 18,000 users engaged on its platform, BI works with FTSE 100s, large privately-owned companies, public sector and government departments, and has delivered ~50% YOY growth over the past five years.
The company's product is smart board report packs supported by its AI tool Lucia, which helps to evaluate the balance of board reports. Board Intelligence also offers a secure portal for board pack distributions and has its own advisory consultancy arm. BI's mission is definitely ambitious then, and it will need full support from the up-and-coming young generation of board members to favour the adoption of its smart board packs.
In 2024, it sold a majority stake in its company to K1 Investments off the back of a doubling of valuation over 3 years. With new international support behind it, its 3000-strong client base - which includes the likes of John Lewis and ITV - will no doubt gain even more value from Board Intelligence's offering.
