Role
Who you are
- Proven experience with Golang and building scalable backend systems
- Solid knowledge of AWS services (e.g., ECS, RDS, OpenSearch, Elastic Cache) and cloud-native architectures
- PHP knowledge for understanding Shopware and discovering bottlenecks in existing code
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Familiarity with orchestration and workflow tools such as Temporal (Golang workflow engine)
- Understanding of monitoring, logging, and tracing solutions (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, OpenTelemetry)
- Knowledge of modern CI/CD practices and tools (GitHub Actions)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders
- A problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
What the job involves
- As a Cloud Engineer SaaS (m/f/d), you will help shape, operate, and continuously improve our SaaS offering that powers online shops around the globe
- You’ll work hands-on with modern cloud technologies, ensuring the platform’s scalability, security, and reliability — and you’ll collaborate closely with other teams to deliver the best experience for our customers
- Maintain and improve our SaaS platform used to run Shopware, primarily written in Golang
- Operate and evolve our infrastructure hosted on AWS
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform
- Support internal teams and customers with issues related to shops deployed on our SaaS product
- Monitor and optimize system performance, ensuring high availability and security
- Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents and minimize downtime
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to align solutions with business needs
Our take
The eCommerce boom in recent years has shown no signs of slowing down, and Shopware is capturing the opportunity. The company offers a set of open source tools to power the online shopping experience for hundreds of thousands of brands.
There are of course competitors, like Shopify Plus, but Shopware has stood out for serving mid-market companies that were not digitally-native businesses but had to take on digital channels to keep up with customer demand. This, combined with the obvious increase in brands and companies needing help when eCommerce became more mainstream, has served Shopware particularly well.
Founded in 2000, the company only received its first round of funding in 2022. Until then, it had been profitable off its own back. This capital and support from, among others, Carlyle and PayPal will be invested in its international growth.
