Role
Who you are
- We seek an experienced accounting professional with payroll processing and commissions calculating experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required
- 2 + years in payroll, commissions or accounting operations
- Payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-state and global environment
- Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Goal-oriented personality capable of multitasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment
- Highly motivated, organized, and adaptable
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
- Consistently take ownership of assigned tasks and identify areas for improvement
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while collaborating effectively across teams
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
- Experience using Sage Intacct, Rippling, Tipalti, Carta, Salesforce, and Google Sheets preferred but not required
- Bonus: experience working in the clean technology industry
What the job involves
- The Commissions & Payroll Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for overseeing all payroll functions, including regular salary payments, commissions calculations, bonus payments, and to ensure the timely preparation of accurate financial information for internal and external stakeholders
- Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
- Calculate commissions payments on a monthly and quarterly basis in a accordance with approved compensation plans
- Reconcile commissions payouts against bookings and revenue data, resolve discrepancies
- Respond to employees or management inquiries regarding commission or payroll calculations and provide supporting documentation
- Coordinate annual updates to Commissions Plan as needed
- Assist with drafting Individual Compensation Plans for sales team members
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
- Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors
- Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures
- Assist in preparing financial analyses and schedules necessary for audit, and coordinate audit requests with team members
- Support various special projects and ad hoc tasks as necessary
Our take
The push towards green energy, combined with a sharp pivot away from traditional energy sources like natural gas, has accelerated the development and commercialisation of new electrical supply solutions. One such solution is the leveraging of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs): small-scale supply or demand resources that can be hooked up to the electric grid to help meet (or ease) demand.
Voltus helps broker this connection between DERs and the grid, allowing commercial owners of DERs to connect them to all the wholesale electricity markets in Canada and the US, and thereby gain and manage a potentially substantial additional income stream.
Voltus doesn’t manage as much load as competitors in the space like Enel X and CPower, but with its 2021 SPAC funding, it’s aggressively driving to capture more of what’s quickly becoming a hefty market opportunity. Behind-the-meter loads like water heaters and AC, and energy sources like microgrids and EV chargers, are increasingly sought after by businesses and land owners, and Voltus is benefitting from partnerships with large businesses such as Madison Square Garden Arena and Western Grain Marketing.
