Role
Who you are
- Pickle is looking for a dynamic and driven Software Controls Engineer focused on enhancing the speed and safety of our autonomous mobile robots
- If you are experienced with and passionate about motion planning and controls algorithms, and thrive on solving real-world robotics challenges, we’d love to hear from you
- A software engineer with Bachelors Degree and over 5 years of experience or Masters Degree or higher with equivalent years of experience working in robotics environments. Industry experience is a plus
- A graduate with at least a bachelor’s degree in robotics, computer science, or similar discipline. Master’s degree or higher is preferred
- Proficient in Python. Experience in other relevant languages is a plus
- Experienced with motion planning and controls for robotics systems, with a strong understanding of robot kinematics and dynamics. Experience with mathematical optimization for motion planning is strongly preferred
- Collaborative and communicative, focusing discussions on problem solving ideas and experiments to drive product innovation
- Experienced in working with complex algorithms and capable of optimizing for performance and reliability
- Detail-oriented, but with a system level mindset. Capable of debugging complex problems while maintaining system integrity
- Willing to work in-office from our Cambridge, MA location at least three days
What the job involves
- Design, implement, and optimize motion planning and controls algorithms for an autonomous mobile robot
- Research and develop cutting edge techniques to enhance the safety and speed of our robot
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate your contributions into the broader hardware and software system
- Iterate, test, and tune solutions to improve performance and reliability of the mobile manipulation system, both in simulation and on a real robotic system
- Play a key role in designing and contributing to the architecture of scalable software systems that support the deployment of multiple robots in diverse and dynamic environments
- Act as mentor to other software engineers to improve the team’s overall capabilities in planning and control

Pickle Robot was founded in 2018 to tackle an array of warehouse challenges, finding focus in the labor-intensive truck unloading space. Its pioneering industrial robots are built with AI and computer vision alongside advanced sensor technology, allowing them to perform intelligent unloading tasks at speed. This enables people to work quicker and smarter, whilst also avoiding the high risks of injury and fast turnaround associated with the sector.
Pickle Robot has raised significant funding to support go-to-market activities and improve its deployment capabilities. In 2024 it secured orders that represent the first stage of this commercial expansion, and the company also plans to invest in new feature sets in the near future.
