Company mission

To build AI-powered robotics that empower employees to work smarter and safer, increasing the operational resilience for global brands.

Role

Who you are

  • Excitement about making a real-world impact for people in the warehouse, putting product function first
  • A bias toward action: you prioritize fast development and testing on hardware versus incubating an idea until it is “ready”
  • Eagerness to act as a generalist and solve a diverse set of challenging problems that amplify human potential with state-of-the-art robotics
  • Enthusiasm for owning all phases of the development process from design to implementation to testing to improvements
  • A desire for career growth and ownership of your work
  • Proficiency with Python, Linux, and Docker
  • Experience with C++ or Rust
  • A strong understanding of software engineering development practices (git, CI/CD), finite state machines, multiprocessing/multithreading, and socket programming
  • General experience across the robotics software stack, including controls, kinematics, motion planning, and rigid transformations / 3D geometry
  • Familiarity with project management and acting as tech lead on projects involving one or more other members
  • A BS in a related field with four years of experience in commercial robotics software development OR an MS/PhD in a related field with two years of experience in commercial robotics software development

Desirable

  • Experience with APIs, advanced networking, and application software architecture (e.g. Model-View-Controller)
  • Familiarity with computer vision, grasp planning, collision checking, and/or machine learning

What the job involves

  • We seek a Senior Software Engineer, Motion Planning to develop core robotics libraries and runtime application software for motion planning systems in Ambi products
  • In this role, you will rapidly develop, test, and deploy software in planning applications across the robotics software engineering stack with the goal of improving warehouse operations. You will work closely with the Software team and the CTO

Our take

The logistics and supply chain industry faces a serious challenge - volumes and varieties of goods to be picked and shipped are continuously increasing, but a staffing shortage means the workforce isn't available to accomplish this. Ambi is one of a number of companies aiming to find a solution, producing AI-powered robots to automate and accelerate logistics and fulfillment processes.

Utilizing the latest advances in robotics and machine learning, Ambi's robots work in tandem with human operators and are trained to handle both rigid and deformable (and therefore fragile or easy-to-drop) items, increasing the throughput per employee to over 1,200 items per hour on average. Ambi is competing with numerous other startups in this space, such as Covariant, Pickle and XYZ Robotics, but the addressable market is huge and untapped, with an estimated size of $30 Billion in 2023.

Having built up a customer base that includes the likes of Pitney Bowes and OSM Worldwide, Ambi has also secured a large amount of funding over several investment rounds. This is being used to continue deploying Ambi's robots and expanding its product range. With a growing demand for its technology, Ambi is well poised for future success.
