Role
Who you are
- A Senior Android Engineer who is hands-on, and has built and supported a complex, production-grade app that serves thousands of users
- 5+ years experience building and maintaining advanced Android apps. Proficient in Kotlin
- Knowledge of Android SDK, UI design principles, patterns (MVVM, DI), and best practices
- Deep understanding of XML/View-based development, familiarity with migrating to Compose
- Extensive and strong understanding of Android framework, components, and current/latest platform features
- Familiarity and experience with Android tools and ecosystem for development, automated testing, and debugging
- You understand that product development in startups is a fine art of balancing tradeoffs: shipping consistently without incurring too much carrying cost
- You genuinely care about your craft and are enthusiastic about bringing better practices to the teams you work on
What the job involves
- As a Senior Android Engineer at Mudflap, you’ll lead the development of features that directly impact how drivers manage their business on the road. You'll take ownership of critical app functionality, work closely with a tight-knit team to turn ideas into polished product experiences, and contribute to the evolution of our mobile platform. This is a hands-on role where your work will have immediate impact in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
- Play a key role in shaping the mobile experience for over a hundred thousand truckers nationwide
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Backend teams to build features that solve real-world problems in the logistics and transportation space
- Own the design, development, and maintenance of core features in our Android app, written in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
- Work cross-functionally with backend engineers to define API requirements and ensure seamless mobile performance
- Help architect scalable solutions and contribute to the evolution of our mobile platform
- Drive initiatives to improve code quality, app performance, and developer productivity
- Use data and user feedback to iterate quickly and deliver impactful features
- Help shape best practices and champion a culture of quality and continuous improvement

Our take
Owner-operators make up 9% of the truckers on the road, in other words 680,000 small businesses forming the backbone of the U.S’s crucial trucking industry. However, only big fleets get major fuel discounts because they have large gallon volumes, leaving these self-employed truckers to pay full price.
Mudflap is bringing those savings to owner-operators & small fleets. When drivers sign up for the app, they join tens of thousands of users which Mudflap then leverages to drive sales for truck stops which offer discounts on fuel in return. It’s a smart model which massively simplifies the process for earning discounts compared to the old route of a fuel card which requires a credit check.
Stop managers could be sceptical about working with mobile payments in return for a promise of increased demand. However, the company provides its entire network with a Mudflap tablet through which to handle all payment transactions within the network, making it easy for whoever is behind the counter.
